Last Saturday (Sept. 19) was a phenomenal race day at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway as five divisions wrapped up their seasons.  Here are some quick stats from Saturday:

How do  the divisions compare in time?  For a clean 15 lap heat race, it takes the mini stocks 4:30 from green to checker, 4:15 for the street stocks, the pro trucks come in around 4:05, the sportsman at 4:07 and the late models at 3:44.

Congratulations to all the race teams for a terrific day.

Sky Financial Series Engine Protest Results

Sky Financial Series Protest

Following the DJB Transportation 150 race Saturday at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway a team protest was received by Sky Financial Series officials asking the engine in the JR Motorsports #97, The Legends Golf Course Ford Fusion, driven by Jared Reddekopp, be further tested for compliance as provided for in the series rules.  The protest, filed by the #12 team of Aaron Deagnon, was accompanied by the appropriate forms and fees.

Reddekopp’s car was immediately impounded by the SSCRA and put under the care of a series official.  Club officials and a member of the protesting team witnessed the Reddekopp team remove the engine from the car and surrender it to the club for testing.

As the Sky Financial Super Late Model Series is sanctioned by the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association, SSCRA protest procedures were followed.  For the GM 88958604 and GM 19318604 crate engines mandated for this series, this involves inspecting the factory and club installed seals for tampering.

The engine is then sent for bench testing on a certified dynamometer using a control carburetor supplied by the club.  The horse power rating results are compared to the baseline standard the club has established for these engines.

Dyno testing of the engine took place on Sunday September 20th, with one member of the SSCRA Executive, one series tech rep and one member of the Reddekopp team present to witness.  The protesting team did not have a member present for the dyno test, though they were invited to send someone.

Dyno testing results provided to the club indicate the engine tested within the horsepower baseline specification for the 604 crate engine.  Series tech officials also report that in their opinion none of the engine seals have been tampered with.

It is therefore declared the engine from the JR Motorsports #97 car has passed technical inspection and the protest is denied.  The engine has been released back to JR Motorsports.

SSCRA President Jason Gervais says he is happy someone stepped up and followed official procedures, rather than letting rumours fester.  “Grumbling and gossip on social media can do a lot of damage to the reputation of the race team and the series.  We have procedures in place to have technical inspections beyond those performed on race night done on particular cars.  I must commend the Deagnon team for following these procedures.”

The Sky Financial Super Late Model Series is the only late model racing series operating in western Canada.  The series regularly attracts cars from across Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba to its four races at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.  The series is wholly owned by the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association, but operated by an independent committee appointed by the SSCRA Executive.
