round Fourteen – POINTS FINALS

Here we are – the last night of regular season racing in 2012 - you will see four great divisions on the track: the visiting Super Trucks; the Cooper Tires Thunder Stocks; the Budget Car and Truck Rental Street Stocks; and the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Models. Tonight, we will present the Fan Favourite Driver award as voted by you and we’ll also make the draw for the Ultimate Racing Experience! 

Next week, we’ve got the highly anticipated Ellenn Plastics Annual Enduro. $7,500 of prize money is up for grabs and the SSCRA competition crew has a few tricks up their sleeves to make sure the race is entertaining. Hope to see you there!

Profile – Herm hordal – business manager

Let me set the scene for you…Bobby Gerrard of the 1972 Jersey Devils takes a quick wrist shot in the slot and puts the puck over the shoulder of an obviously screened Suncoast Suns goalie. Bobby then taunts the goalie as he passes behind the net. On his very next shift, Bobby sees an opening again in the slot and proceeds to charge towards the goalie eager to again show up the talented tender. The last thing that Bobby sees for awhile is the blocker of the Suns goalie, Herm Hordal. Gerrard can be heard saying “better leave that guy alone” leaving the ice leaking and embarrassed.

Some things have changed, Herm is not as violent, but one thing that has not changed is his determination to get the job done. I'm sure the SSCRA would agree that Herm takes on every challenge. Trent Seidel tells the story of visiting Herm in hospital after heart surgery where Herm is busy working from his hospital bed via cell phone. Herm operates Bottom Line Marketing and works on behalf of the club completing umm, well all kinds of tasks. Early mornings, late nights, all part of a typical Herm work week. Gail (Herm’s wife) must be very understanding as Herm is a very focused individual which I'm sure creeps into his personal life. Okay, it probably consumes his personal life!

Herm has the ability to entertain guests from out of town, meet celebrities, give interviews, organize meetings, shows and events, get everybody pumped with his positive attitude, and carry a heavy hand if needed, sometimes all of this at the same time! He does not know I am writing this and I will probably hear about it but it's how I and I'm sure the SSCRA executive, members and anyone associated with this man feel.

I attach recent and not so recent photo of Herm for those at the track who may not know him. If you see this man, say hey Herm, shake his hand and tell him thanks for what he does for this club and facility.
