Another beautiful Saturday night for racing, round 13 was a fan favorite A&W Martensville 100 Street Stock Invitational with drivers coming from around Saskatchewan and Alberta. The Cooper Tire Thunder Stock and Mike and Ikes Sask Legends rounded out the show. This year for the A&W Martensville 100 the local teams were allowed to run G24 racing tires with many teams taking the opportunity to give them a try. For the ones that decided to stay on Cooper tires the top three finishers on Coopers were rewarded with an added bonus. When qualifying was complete for the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks local driver #44 Craig Katelnikoff was on top of the board with a time of 16.584. The trophy dash was a fast paced event that saw the 9T of Justin Tooley put on a show and take the win, no shortage of power under that hood. Second was captured by #44 Craig Katelnikoff while #432 Eric McIntosh finished third. Heat race A saw #34 Mike Schroeder recover nicely as he drove from the back to the front in short order after breaking an axle in qualifying. #43 Dale Osbourne took second followed by #80 Guy Derdall in third. In heat race B #35 Mike Dionne got to the flag first with #19 Aaron Anderson in hot pursuit and #33 Ryan Thompson finishing third. In the B main #88 Brad Wrennick came out on top with the #66 Wayne Osborne in second and the #22X Kevin Jorgenson in third. Usually only a certain number of cars from the B main get into the big race but this year officials decided to let all of the competitors make the big show. The 100 lap Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stock feature event was the A&W Martensville 100. The fans were treated to an exciting race and with 32 cars on the track the action started right after the green flag dropped. Early in the first 50 laps #44 Craig Katelnikoff suffered a right front rotor failure ending his night early, it was very unfortunate since he had such a strong car. He wasn't the only one to have trouble find him, #19X Ray Utigard and #99 Cory Kallis both found themselves out before the half way point. At the 50 lap mark there was a competition caution to allow the cars to get fuel, windshield cleaned and the driver could get a drink, no other adjustments were allowed. The #34 Mike Schroeder was leading, #9T Justin Tooley in second and #43 Dale Osbourne in third with the final 50 laps left. The action was intense as the laps wound down and the money lap was in sight, but no one had anything for #34 Mike Schroeder. He claimed the victory and proceeded to treat the fans to some awesome donuts, always a fan favorite celebration. #43 Dale Osbourne finished second and #62 Kenny Heintz had a phenomenal run coming in third. #19 Aaron Anderson was the top finishing car on Cooper tires so he took home a little extra cash for that honor. The Cooper Tire Thunder Stock division was up next. The first heat race saw Barry Stefaniuk back in the #81 and it didn't take him long to get back into victory lane. The #18 Mike Rea finished second and #66 Brent Dupuis took third . The qualifier race saw the same three cars battling for the win but this time #66 Brent Dupuis got there first, once again #18 Mike Rea took second and this time #81 Barry Stefaniuk finished third. The Cooper Tire Thunder Stock feature race saw #66 Brent Dupuis get the win followed by #18 Mike Rea and #81 Barry Stefaniuk made another podium appearance in third. #66 Brent Dupuis adds yet another 50th anniversary flag to his collection. Next up the Mike and Ike's Sask Legends division were out for their final stop of the season. They started off with the four car qualifying that they are famous for with #24 Brad Blumer taking top spot with a time of 16.524. Heat A saw the #24 Brad Blumer take the checkers with #21 Blake Erb and #48 Roger McConnell hot on his tail. In heat B #42 Hugh Williamson held off #13 Chelsey Wilson for the win #26 Ernie Ludwig brought it home in third. Qualifier A played out the same as Heat A with #24 Brad Blumer out front, #21 Blake Erb in second and this time #25 Jason Jessiman finished third. In Qualifier B #42 Hugh Williamson again captured the top spot with #2 Kerry Neufeld in second and #5 Kyle Van Ham sneaking into third. The Mike and Ike's feature race had plenty of battles for position and action happening all over the track. With less than five laps to go it looked as if #21 Blake Erb was going to be able to get past #24 Brad Blumer for the win but #24 Brad Blumer was able to hold on and the # 42 Hugh Williamson slid into second leaving #21 Blake Erb with third. Brad picked up his first 50th anniversary flag and I'm sure it was well worth shutting down harvest to come racing, besides harvest is so much sweeter with a checkered flag in your combine!
