Saturday September 1rst was jammed packed with great racing action as drivers and teams from Alberta, BC and various locations throughout the United States made the trek to Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for the Dakota Dunes SUPERSEAL 200 Super Late Model race. This was also a reunion event as the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association celebrates it's 50th anniversary this year. Several past presidents, executive and racers were on hand to share their memories and experiences. Two local divisions also provided some exciting action, the Part Source Mini Stock and the SKL Trailers Pro Trucks competed in a regular points meet and with the season winding down every point counts. Between final practice and qualifying the rains came and washed the rubber off the track. The track trucks and Mini stock division took to the track, the sun also came back out helping to get the race back on schedule, but the green track would put the crew chiefs to work. The Part Source Mini Stocks are a strong division this year with 18 cars registered for the season. In the first heat #1 Scott Barrand got his first career win followed by #7 Darnell Schick and #95 Clay Wagner. In the divisions qualifier race, #10 Kevin Dyck got the win with #92 Brennan Kirton in second and #15 Dawson Reddekopp in third. Brennan and Dawson are a couple of second year drivers that are really starting to become contenders. The Part Source Mini Stock feature race of the night was a 30 lap dash. #7 Darnell Schick skillfully worked his way through the pack and claimed his second feature win of the season and moving him into the championship lead. Again the #92 Brennan Kirton had an awesome run bringing it home in second while #10 Kevin Dyck got up to third. In the SKL Trailers Pro Truck division #27 Scott Lucas continued his winning ways and took the checkered flag for the heat race followed by #19 Rylan Utigard and #18 “Wild” Bill Zubrecki. #93 Neil Schneider found his way back to victory lane winning the qualifier race with #50 Ben Pogoda in second and #14 Wade Wohlford in third. This division is exciting to watch as there are many strong competitors and the racing is always very tight. In the feature the crowd was treated to a little flash back to the past as veteran flag man Rick Elliot gave them the green from the middle of the front stretch. Once again the racing was close and several trucks sacrificed some fiberglass but when the dust settled #93 Neil Schneider got his second win of the evening followed by #18 “Wild” Bill Zubrecki in second place and #14 Wade Wohlford picking up another third.
The Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series competed in their third of four race events at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in 2012. Thirty five teams showed up to participate in the action unfortunately two blew engines in practice and one crashed hard during qualifying. The SUPERSEAL 200 promised to be the biggest Super Late Model race in Western Canada, a border challenge between USA and Canada and it lived up to those promises. Qualifying times for the fastest sixteen guaranteed teams a spot in the race – starting order was determined by the finishing order in the heat races. Qualifying started this event off with #76 Brian Johnson Jr. of Rockfort Illinois getting the pole in 14.300 with #6 Chris Skelton of Calgary Alberta in second at 14.370. These two would be offered a chance to start the feature race from the rear for a shot at some extra cash... but more on that later. Top three finishers for the two heat races were #33 Jamie McClennon (Wainwright, AB), #55 Jim Gaunt (Saskatoon) in second and #12 Giles Thorton (Whitefish MT,US) in third in the first heat; and #24 Cameron Hayley (Priddis,AB) in first, #08 Kelly Admiraal (Edmonton,AB) in second and in third #17 Trevor Emond (Leduc,AB) in the second heat. Top three positions for the B Main went to drivers #14 Glenn Hertzke (Saskatoon), #5 Gary Lister (Okotoks,AB), and #77 Jim Barnsley (Saskatoon). Starting order had been determined for the SUPERSEAL 200 lap race by previous events of the day - but back to the earlier mentioned twist. As a bonus for achieving the top two qualifying spots #76 Brian Johnson Jr and #6 Chris Skelton were offered an additional $1000 payout if they won the race…but the catch…they had to start the race from the back. A tough feat to work their way through the field of cars....but Chris Skelton agreed to give it a shot! Then the big dice came out….a 12 was rolled…meaning that the front twelve positions (after #6 Chris Skelton took his spot in the back) were inverted. Now the starting order was finalized. The race was tight…and fast! Lots of great passing and only one caution flag before the competition caution at lap 50 that saw teams take fuel and two tires. At this point #70 Trent Seidel (Saskatoon) was leading followed by #76 Brian Johnson Jr (Illinois) and #33 Jamie McClennon (Wainright,AB). It should be noted that at this point #6 Chris Skelton (Calgary,AB) was in 12th position after starting 25th. When the race resumed the action continued with a tight battle up front and plenty of racing throughout the field. 110 laps in #6 Chris Skelton takes the lead and pulls out an impressive gap while dealing with lapped traffic. #33 Jamie McClennon manages to reel him in and makes it a very close race but #6 Chris Skelton does the unimaginable and wins the SUPERSEAL 200 from the back of the pack. #33 Jamie McClennon is a fender behind him in second and local driver #70 Trent Seidel finishes a solid third.
