Friday nights under the lights always makes for some incredible racing, but when it's Friday the 13th be prepared for the unexpected. Once again the weatherman cooperated and gave us a beautiful evening after another hot day. The smoke hanging in the air from the forest fires added an ominous feel to the event and was a sign of things to come. Speaking of unexpected to start the evening off Robin Boomsma co-driver of the #95 mini did the invocation and 14 year old Zachery Jalbert driver of the #14 Mini brought out his guitar and amp (color matched to his car I might add) and played the Canada anthem. Three local divisions provided the racing action starting with the SKL Trailer Pro Trucks, Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks and the feature class was the Parts Source Mini Stock division. The SKL Trailer Pro Trucks are a strong division this year with lots of close racing all season and once again they didn't disappoint. In the first heat #18 Bill Zubrecki had a great start to the night with a win followed by #50 Ben Pogoda and #27 Scott Lucas. In the divisions qualifier race, #54 Tony Mikulcik got the win with #19 Rylan Utigard in second and #49 Shantel Firth in third. The SKL Trailer Pro Truck feature race of the night was a 50 lap affair and Friday the 13th didn't disappoint with plenty of hard racing and several instances of contact bringing out the caution. When the smoke cleared and the fiberglass had been cleaned up #27 Scott Lucas worked his way through the pack to come home with the win. #18 Bill Zubrecki also survived the carnage to finish second, and #54 Tony Mikulcik crossed the line to finish a close third. Scott accepted his 50th anniversary flag from long time member Ron Eby. In the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stock division #19 Aaron Anderson took the checkered flag for the heat race followed by #3 Brad Kliewer in second and #34 Mike Schroeder a close third. #62 Kenny Heintz won the qualifier race with an impressive performance. #15 Todd Pluhator out for the first time all year, brought it home second, #19 Aaron Anderson followed in third. This division is exciting to watch as there are many strong competitors and probably the tightest points battle of all classes this season. In the 50 lap Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stock feature the fans were treated to another exciting race. #34 Mike Schroeder got the win and it catapults him from 7th to a tie for 5th in the points standings. He was followed closely by #19 Aaron Anderson in second place and #62 Kenny Heintz in third. Mike accepted his 50th anniversary flag from lifetime member Heather Skakun and proceeded to treat the fans to some awesome victory donuts. The Part Source Mini Stocks are a strong division this year having 17 cars registered for the season. With such a large car count Friday the 13th was likely to strike and it did. In the first heat #42 Landry Boisvert made his way through and broke free of the pack to cruise to the win. With a half lap to go #95 Clay Wagner looked as though he could hold off a hard charging #14 Zach Jalbert but contact between the two sent #95 through the grass narrowly missing the end of the pit wall. #10 Kevin Dyck and #41 Jamie Tataryn took advantage of the situation to finish second and third. In the divisions qualifier race #14 Zach Jalbert bounced back to get the win with #7 Darnell Schick in second and #42 Landry Boisvert in third. The Part Source Mini Stock feature race of the night was scheduled to be a 50 lap event but after two complete restarts and several early cautions it was shortened to 40 laps. #10 Kevin Dyck survived the cautions and carnage to pull off the win, #95 Clay Wagner kept him honest and finished a close second, #7 Darnell Schick broke free from traffic late and finished third. With points contenders #42 Landry Boisvert and #14 Zachary Jalbert both suffering mechanical failures the standings will shuffle considerably. Kevin accepted his 50th anniversary flag from long time member Brad Kliewer. Full race results and points standings are reported below or you can visit the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway website at www.autoclearingmotorspeedway.ca. The next action at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is Saturday July 21 with the second of four stops for the Super Truck Racing Series out of Alberta, the Budget Car and Truck Rental Street Stocks and Cooper Tire Thunder Stocks running the Race for a Cure invitational.
