ROUND SEVEN RACING Three local divisions on the track this evening in a regular points meet, the Part Source Mini Stocks, the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks and the SKL Trailers Pro Trucks. Mid-way through the season now, we are starting to get a glimpse of who is going to rise to the top. DYCK (Mini), ANDERSON (Street) and LUCAS (ProTrucks) hold the top spots in their divisions but the second placers SCHICK (Mini), HEINTZ (Street) and POGODA (ProTrucks) aren’t going to give up yet - there are lots of laps left in the season! DRIVER PROFILE – TRUDY SAWATZKY - #11 STREE I became a fan of stock car racing in the late80’s when my husband Glenn became involved on the pit crew of Dave Bone’s Street Stock. After watching for a while, I expressed interest in trying it out! My first experience was a spin around the track in Marv Righi’s Thunder Stock car arranged by Glenn for an anniversary present. I was so nervous and it was raining a bit so I spun out a few times! That was just the beginning of many spin outs, as I was about to find out. I got a few more opportunities to drive Marv’s thunder in some races, and in Monica Johnsons’ thunder in the powder puff race. In later years, I found out I had stock car racing in my blood when I found pictures of my Dad from 1954 on the 8th street track! Then for Christmas in 1994, Glenn bought me my very own thunder car! We started gutting and working on it immediately. Our girls spent many hours in their shop clothes hanging around the car helping, playing at the shop and sleeping in the big cardboard boxes there! Jessica was 5, Alyssa 3 and Michelle 2 yrs. old at the time I began racing. Always supporting me, still to this day! We took one year off then I began my “career” in the Street Stock class. We bought my Camaro from Ken Bone and she is one of the famous” three sisters” built by Wally Eby! We have had so many great times and made many memories running in Streets, from the old days with up to 30 cars running a night at Bridge City Speedway and then moving to our new speedway!
I wanted to race this season to celebrate 50 years of the SSCRA and my 50 years! We hope to have fun and enjoy this final season to the fullest. And we hope to win one feature race so I can bring home a prized 50th anniversary flag! I really enjoyed returning to see all the new female drivers racing now and my only advice would be another of my favorite mottos; “GO HARD or GO HOME”. Best of luck to the boys too! Trudy

T STOCK
I really feel lucky and blessed to have such excellent sponsorship over the years from Tiger Automotive, Gord’s Plumbing & Heating, Extreme Transmissions, Karam Alternators, The Crop, Suncan Industries from the beginning and all the others throughout the years! Also the support of my husband, daughters, family, friends and fans is so overwhelmingly positive! My Mom used to bring the girls out and home to every race, and Glenn’s parents also supported me! One of my favorite mottos is “A family that races together stays together”. My crew has been awesome and I would like to give special thanks to Myron Meier, Bruce Petrie, and Chris Harabaruk who spent countless hours with me over many years! We are having a reunion night on Aug. 11th, so looking forward to that so much!
