Race Report from Auto Clearing Motor Speedway Last night (Saturday June 23) was jammed packed with great racing action as drivers, teams and fans were out at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on a beautiful sunny evening. Two local divisions, the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks and the Part Source Mini Stocks competed in a regular points meet. In addition, the visiting Legends Series and the Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series tore up the track. In the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stock division #3 Brad Kliewer took the checkered flag for the heat race followed by #21 Mike Baht and #11 Trudy Sawatzky. #62 Kenny Heintz won the qualifier race with #88 Brad Wrennick in second and #44 Craig Katelnikoff in third. This division is exciting to watch as there are many strong competitors. In the feature #19 Aaron Anderson got the win followed by #62 Kenny Heintz in second place and #44 Craig Katelnikoff in third. The Part Source Mini Stocks are a strong division this year with 18 cars registered for the season. In the first heat #14 Zachery Jalbert got his first racing career win followed by #10 Kevin Dyck and #1 Scott Barrand. In the divisions qualifier race, #42 Landry Boisvert got the win with #10 Kevin Dyck in second and #7 Darnell Schick in third. The Part Source Mini Stock feature race of the night was a 25 lap dash. #14 Zachery Jalbert looked as though he was going to pull off a second win with some great door to door racing, but #10 Kevin Dyck was the victor followed #7 Darnell Schick and #42 Landry Boisvert. The visiting Legends series were back in Saskatoon for their first official race event of the season. These drivers are always fun to watch as they are so fast! This series is divided by experience of the drivers – into three divisions Semi Pro, Pro and Masters. The heats are run by the divisions and in the feature all drivers regardless of the division compete together. The feature race – an 83 lap race with a mandatory caution flag for a mid-race gas fill up was caution filled with a and extended break being required for a oil spill almost around the entire track. Once they got going again, these cars showed the fans some fabulous racing with quick passes. The #81 of Dexter Hucul of Edmonton AB got the 2012 Mac’s Froster 50 win with #32 Adam Gilbert (Leduc AB) placing second and #29 Aaron Friend (Calgary AB) coming in third. Visit www.legendscars.ca for more information on the Legends Racing Series and points standings. The Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series competed in their first of four race events at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in 2012. Twenty one teams came out to Auto Clearing Motor Speedway to participate in the action – the main race the Interstate Batteries 150. Qualifying times for the fastest sixteen guaranteed teams a spot in the race – starting order was determined by the finishing order in the heat races. Top three finishers for the two heat races were #44 Trevor Hannay (Saskatoon), #70 Trent Seidel (Saskatoon) in second and #14 Glen Hertzke (Saskatoon) in third in the first heat; and #33 Jamie McClennon (AB) in first, #55 Jim Gaunt (Saskatoon) in second and #08 Kelly Admiraal (AB) in third in the second heat. Top three positions for the B Main went to drivers #22 Doug Bienia (Saskatoon), #56 Howard Crossman (Saskatoon), and #54 Doug Adams (AB). Starting order had been determined for the Interstate Batteries 150 lap race by previous events of the day - but then there was the twist. #17 Greg Vangool (Saskatoon) and #33 Jamie McClennon (AB) qualified for the first two positions. As a bonus for achieving that feat, these two drivers were offered an additional $1000 payout if they won the race…but the catch…they had to start the race from the back. A tough feat to work their way through the field of cars....but both agreed to give it a shot! Then the big dice came out….an 10 was rolled…meaning that the front ten positions (after the two were took their spot in the back) were inverted. Now the starting order was finalized. The race was tight…and fast! Lots of great passing and a few mix-ups between drivers brought out the caution flag. #55 Jim Gaunt (Saskatoon) got to the front early on and was followed by #14 Glen Hertzke (Saskatoon). #77 Jim Barnsley (Saskatoon) led a few laps during but the #17 Greg Vangool (Saskatoon) with a strong car forged through traffic, got to the front and looked like he was going to win. With 3 laps remaining #17 was involved in a spin, taking him to the pits. #14 Glen Hertzke (who had held the second position for most of the race) led the final three laps to win the Interstate Batteries 150. #77 Jim Barnsley (Saskatoon) finished second and #70 Trent Seidel (Saskatoon) finishing third.
