Round Thirteen Racing - Bryce Mann Memorial September....we may be nearing the end of the race season...but there are still lots of laps to be raced here at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. Tonight we have three local classes on the track the Western Sportsman division, the SKL Trailers Pro Trucks and the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Models. The Super Late Model division will compete in the feature race for the evening...the Bryce Mann Memorial. Also here this evening are the visiting Baby Grands.
We feature Ben Busch this week. Ben has been in and around racing for many years. Q. Tell us about your start into racing, where you started, what you started in? A. I got started in racing over 20 years ago helping out on a friend's dirt car in P.A. Back then they had mechanic races and one day they stuffed me in the car and told me to go run the mechanics race......I was HOOKED and have been ever since. Q. Besides visor tear offs, tell us some of the differences from dirt to asphalt? A. The way the track feels and the way the car handles are very different. On dirt you go thru the corners in a controlled sideways slide, as the Hudson Hornet (from the movie CARS) said " You have to turn right to go left!" Haha. Whereas on asphalt you need to be hooked up to the track at all times. On asphalt the set-up of the car plays a bigger role than on dirt. Q. Anything else you would like to share with your fans? A. I would like to continue with 2 race vehicles next year and hope that the Sportsman class will continue to grow. I will offer my help to anyone who is interested in joining this class. The drive from P.A. is all worthwhile because we get the opportunity to race at a first class facility and the SSCRA members always make us feel welcome and part of their racing family. Driver Profile - Ben Busch - #49 western sportsman
Q. Racing is a family affair at the Busch residence. I know of 2 race vehicles, the sportsman and the pro truck Shantel drives, are there any more? A. We have the two race vehicles, the Sportsman which I drive and a ProTruck which my daughter Shantel drives. But there is always room and another stall in the shop for one more just don't tell my wife Sandy...haha.
