Auto Clearing Motor Speedway We are just into the second half of the racing season for 2011 and boy is it heating up. Drivers are going hard to win the points each night to be there at the top when the trophies are given out at the end of the season. Tonight, all drivers drove…and unfortunately, there was a lot of caution laps, lots of wreckage and drivers will be busy in their garages to fix the race vehicles for their next event. Even with all the cautions….it sure was some great passes and some great racing at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. The SKL Trailers Pro Trucks division heat race saw #19 Rylan Utigard, #14 Wade Wohlford and #27 Scott Lucas finish 1,2,3 respectively. The qualifier was won by #67 Ken Ross, followed by #38 Rick Kucher in second and #27 Scott Lucas in third. The 50 lap feature top three (in the order they finished) were #38 Rick Kucher, #27 Scott Lucas and #67 Ken Ross. J&B Water and Vacuum Service Super Trucks - Bobcat of Saskatoon Series were racing at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for the third of the four race series in Saskatoon. The last event for these racers was rained out in June so they were anxious to get on the track and go for points. Four heats were held for this division. In Heat A the top three were: first - #84 Jamie McClennon, second - #44 Dean Braham and third - #20 Neil Fitzgerald. Heat B was won by #18 Ron Elder Jr. followed by #00 Kevin McLean in second and #07 Dean Cunningham in third. The #74 Larry Cramer back in Saskatoon for the first time this year won Heat C followed by #99 Doug Fischer and #41 Len Zimmer. Heat D saw #2 Brian Sparks win with #18 Ron Elder Jr. in second and #79 Gary Miller. The 100 lap feature for the Super Trucks was won by #84 Jamie McClennon (also know as Booger) with his business partner #99 Doug Fischer in second and with #20 Neil Fitzgerald in third. The feature division of the night was the Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series. This was the fourth night of the five rave event series. In the first heat #14 Glen Hertzke came away with a win followed by #17 Trevor Emond and the #24 Cameron Hayley. The second heat top three were #70 Trent Seidel, #6 Chris Skelton and #69 PJ Kondra respectively. The “B Main” race to determine starting positions for those not qualifying for the event in the top 16 was held and #38 Dave Bone finished first followed by #89 Mark Miller and #22 Doug Bienia. Earlier in the day qualifying for the top 16 positions was held. #17 Trevor Emond earned the top lap time of the day at 14.439 seconds – followed by #6 Chris Skelton with a lap time of 14.531 seconds. Qualifying top two gave these two drivers a big decision to make for the feature race. They could choose to start in their original qualifying position (first/second) or each driver could choose to move to the back of the starting grid and try their luck to make their way through the field of drivers. Why would a driver do that? Well….if one of the drivers won the race when starting from the back, in addition to the regular payout for the evening, they would win an additional $500. Both Emond and Skelton gambled and went to the back. The feature race the Blacksun 150 was a long one full of cautions. Lots of spins and unfortunately, damage to many of the cars. The #6 Chris Skelton was one of those involved in a crash. His car was not drivable and had to be towed, on a dolly, into the pits. Fifteen year old #24 Cameron Hayley ended up at the front at the end of the race beating out #17 Trevor Emond who finished second and local #55 Jim Gaunt who finished third. The next Dakota Dunes Casino Western Canadian Super Late Model Championship Series race event will be held on Saturday September 17th. The next local race event at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway will be held on Friday August 26th as part of the Rawlco Cruise Weekend. Divisions racing will be the Part Source Mini Stocks, the Cooper Tires Thunder Stocks, the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks and the WSSL Auto Parts Super Late Models. Gates will open at 6pm and the green flag is scheduled to drop at 7pm. Results from the evening are as follows.
