July 16^th was a great evening for racing! The weather was absolutely beautiful and many people came out to Auto Clearing Motor Speedway to enjoy the evening and support a great cause, the Canadian Cancer Society. This was the third annual Race For A Cure honouring those we have lost to the disease and raising money to find a cure. Local driver Rick Kucher in his #38 ProTruck has dedicated his race season to supporting the Cancer Society and has painted his ProTruck pink. Rick and his family served as the honourary pace car for the night. Drivers, teams, sponsors and fans showed their support and the Race For A Cure event raised over $10,500.  

 

Four local divisions competed including the Part Source Mini Stocks, the Western Sportsman division, the Budget Car and Truck Rental Street Stocks and the Cooper Tires Thunder Stocks. Race results for each of the divisions were as reported below.

 

In the Part Source Mini Stocks division, drivers #10 Kevin Dyck, #95 Clay Wagner, each won a heat race and #13 Dennis Beck and #41 Jamie Tataryn each won a qualifier. The divisions feature was won by #95 Clay Wagner followed by #70 of Tristan Ransom and #62 of Kenny Heintz. Auto Clearing Motor Speedway’s Junior Racing program was involved with the Mini Stock races for the evening as 2010 Mini Stock Champion and Junior Racing Program director Todd Jalbert took some junior members (aged 12-18) on race ride-alongs giving them a great in car racing experience.

 

Eleven cars started the evening in the Budget Car & Truck Rental Street Stocks division and the #87 Tristan Saunders won the first heat. The #88 Brad Wrennick won the qualifier race which included some bumping, cars spinning and some on track retaliation. #34 of Mike Schroeder was disqualified for the race and the #43 of Kevin MacLaggin was disqualified for the rest of the evening. The #99 of Cory Kallis raced a great race and won the divisions feature race of the night. The #87 of Tristan Saunders and the #34 of Mike Schroeder placed second and third respectively. 

 

In the Western Sportsman division, only four cars made it out to compete for the night. The #04 of Tim Kammer (Moose Jaw) had a good night with a win in the heat and the division feature. The #49 Ben Busch (Prince Albert) won the qualifier race. 

 

The feature division of the night was the Cooper Tires Thunder Stocks. The #81 of Barry Stefaniuk won both the heat and qualifier race leading up to the main event the Race For A Cure. This feature was started with a pre-race silent lap with the crowd standing to honour those who have lost their battle to cancer. The race was full of spins and the #49 of Mickey Pogoda lead many laps but spun herself out leaving #18 Mike Rea to take the lead and win the race. #34 Mike Schroeder finished second and #81 Barry Stefaniuk finished third. #49 Mickey Pogoda finished fifth.
