Sponsored by Budget Car and Truck Rental, the Street Stock Division is one of the most common divisions in North America with almost every track having some version of a Street Stock. Based originally on a domestic car with a minimum wheelbase of 101 inches, the favourites are Camaros, Firebirds and Monte Carlos with full roll cage and driver safety systems.
Street Stocks are limited in chassis to what was originally offered with the car from the factory and limited in suspension to family line (GM to GM etc.) components that fit without modifications. Something new for 2013 they will be running on S800 Hoosier grooved slick tires mounted on eight inch wide racing wheels. Engines are limited to low compression cast iron 350 CID with aftermarket two barrel carburetors and tubular headers. Minimum weight is 3200 lbs with driver and only 55% of that weight may be on the left side of the car.
While these cars originally started life as a street driven automobile, they are lightened by cutting away all of the inner body structures and have enough adjustments to make them handle very well. Limitations on engines and performance parts help keep big money from dominating but put it in the hands of the drivers and crew, making Street Stock some of the most competitive racing seen anywhere.
In 2011, the following cars became legal for the Street Stock Division:
