Motor Speedway's Thunder Stock cars are designed as an entry level
division
utilizing big heavy cars that are a challenge to handle on a race track.
Minimum
wheelbase of a thunder is 116 inches making cars such as a full size Chev Impala
the car of choice. Full roll cage and driver safety systems are required.
Engines are limited to low compression cast iron 350 CID with two-barrel
carburetors and stock cast iron manifolds. Body, chassis and suspension
components must be stock for the year, make and model used. Tires are limited to
Street type radial tires that may have been stock on these cars from the factory
mounted on eight-inch wide racing wheels maximum.
Limitations are designed to
keep the division low in cost. During the racing in this division contact is
inevitable because of the size and handling of these cars and in fact bumping
and pushing is encouraged by the officials making Thunder Stock a favourite of
the many fans who love to see the crash and bang style of racing.
