On
behalf of President Andrew Clewes and the entire Executive Committee I would
like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved at Auto
Clearing Motor Speedway in one form or other this past year and to wish everyone
all the best this holiday season.
By involved we mean, drivers, crew members, track officials, track side volunteers, fan side volunteers, corporate partners, concession staff, souvenir booth staff, suppliers, fans, season ticket holders, visiting drivers and crew, radio, television and print media and I'm sure the list goes on.
Plans are well underway to bring you some more action packed racing in 2008. We expect that the 2008 schedule will be unveiled in January.
We have already announced that admission prices, season ticket prices, and flex pak prices will all remain unchanged for 2008.
Again all the best this holiday season!
Race car drivers are known for three things: speed, determination, and focus. For driver Trent Seidel, those qualities also come in handy when losing weight. Weight wasn't always a problem for Trent. As a teenager, he was regularly active. But once he got older, his lifestyle slowed, and he found himself working out less. [More]
All members are reminded that the next General Membership meeting is tomorrow night, Monday December 17th at the John Remai Centre on Cynthia Street (please go to the back door). The meeting starts at 7:00 pm. A general update of planning activities for the 2008 race season will be provided.
The SSCRA History Wall Committee is pleased to
announce that the names that have been confirmed
for inclusion on the Wall are now available
on-line. Due to the size of the wall the on-line
version has been broken down into two sections,
a
left side and a
right side. You can now keep track of the
names that will be going on the wall as well as
the locations that the plaques will be when they
go on the wall. As names are confirmed they will
be added to the on-line wall.
If your name is on the wall and you would like to have a link to information on yourself or a picture of yourself or your car, etc please let us know by email and we will be happy to accommodate this. As long as you provide the information we can post it for you.
The SSCRA History Wall Committee wishes to advise anyone wishing to purchase a spot on the History Wall as a Christmas Gift that the the last day to do so is Thursday, December 20th.
Order forms to have your name included on the History Wall, in either
Word Format or
PDF Format can be downloaded, completed and sent by mail to Box 169, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3K4 or faxed to 306.956.0607. Order forms can also be filled out
on-line.
For more information or to make your donation and order your plaque, please contact either Doug Cooper at 306.683.0673 or Heather Skakun at 306.382.6380. You can also send an email to Doug at dcooper4@sasktel.net for more information.
The SSCRA History Wall Committee are pleased to announce that eighteen more
names have been added to the SSCRA History wall bringing the total number of
names confirmed on the wall thus far to 38. This is almost 15% of the
Committee's initial target of 256 names.
Among the eighteen names recently confirmed are former Powder
Puff drivers, Linda Hodgson and Koreen Eby. Also going on the wall are track
side volunteers Wes Hodgson who was a Pit Steward and Lyle Helgason who drove
the in-field tow truck at Bridge City Speedway.
Two of Stan Caron's long-time sponsors City Centre Bingo and
Doug Paulsen have each claimed a spot, as have Steve Wojcichowski, former
mechanci for #66 Street Stock and life time member Jerry Horsley.
More members of the Eby family, Wally, Liz, Ron, Kevin, and
Terry will all be on the wall. Current Pro Truck and former Street Stock driver
Wade Wohlford has nailed down his spot, as has Debbie Tymchatyn a long-time
stock car racing fan.
Garth Hazlehurst has purchased a spot for himself as well as
one in memory of Stan Hazlehurst.

Mervyn Mann, well-known to Saskatoon residents for his success in both the
automotive business and the curling rink, died Saturday in Saskatoon.
Business competitors and long-time employees of Saskatoon Motor Products (SMP)
say just because Mann wasn't one of those car dealers who appears in his own
television commercials doesn't mean he wasn't a presence at his dealership. [Click

Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a seminar for current or prospective stock car drivers. The seminar will run all day on Saturday January 12 and will cover marketing related topics in the morning and driving related topics in the afternoon. The cost of the seminar will be minimal, most likely $25 enough to cover the cost of the meeting room and lunch.
While the marketing portion of the seminar is designed to help you maximize the sponsorship dollars you are able to generate, the driving portion of the seminar will touch on car set up, driving tips, practice techniques and team management to name a few. If there is a particular topic that you would like to see covered in the seminar please send us an email letting us know about it so we can add it to the agenda.
Flex Paks for the 2008 season are turning out to be a pretty good Christmas gift, with a half dozen or so being sold in the past week. Flex Paks sell for $125 and contain 10 tickets that can be used for any race in the 2008 race season. One person can go to 10 different races or 10 people can go to one race, it doesn't matter. Flex Pak tickets can be used at either Regular or Special Event races. To order your Flex Pak call 651-FAST or email the business office and will will be in touch with you to make the necessary arrangements.
Long-time Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association member Al Bakke has purchased three plaques for the history wall, bringing the total sold to date to 20. Besides putting his own name up, Bakke has purchased spots on the wall for Mike Tarnowski and Bob Lyons. Tarnowski was the mechanic that kept Bakke's car tuned and ready to race for more than a dozen years. Lyons, besides being 'a character', was one of the first flagmen at SSCRA in the 8th street days. With just under two weeks to Christmas, why not buy a spot of the SSCRA History Wall for someone that you think has played a role in shaping stock car racing history in Saskatoon.
Order forms to have your name included on the History Wall, in either Word Format or PDF Format can be downloaded, completed and sent by mail to Box 169, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3K4 or faxed to 306.956.0607. Order forms can also be filled out on-line.

President Andrew Clewes announced today that Stan Reddekopp, has agreed to fulfill the remaining 10 month term of the Director's position left vacant by the recent resignation of Cory Kallis. Reddekopp relinquishes his responsibilities as Pro truck Technical Advisor and will immediately take on chairmanship of the Fan Side Committee. Anyone interested in being the Pro Truck Advisor is asked to contact President Clewes.
It was with regret that the Executive Committee received the resignation of Cory Kallis from his position on the Committee. Kallis was elected as a Director in October 2007 and, due to personal reasons, was unable to continue serving the remainder of his one year term.
Ken
Barteski (on the right), of K3 Kensulting Inc. and Auto Clearing Motor
Speedway's marketing and business development office gets his chance to
celebrate the Saskatchewan Roughriders Grey Cup win by getting up close and
personal with the Grey Cup itself.
Barteski and his son Kam (on the left) were among the 350 or so people that took in the Roughriders Grey Cup Championship Luncheon at TCU Place yesterday. "I've been a long-time supporter of the Roughriders and was more than delighted when my wife gave Kam and I tickets to the luncheon as a bit if an early Christmas gift.."

At there meeting last evening, the Executive Committee expressed their gratitude
to Donna Lyrette for her efforts in co-coordinating the 2007 Awards Banquet.
This year's banquet generated approximately $7,500, primarily through bar sales
and the sale of silent auction items. "It wasn't just me," Lyrette was quick to
explain when contacted today, "many people were involved in putting on the
banquet, I just tried to organize things as best I could. The credit really goes
out to the people who sold tickets, decorated the venue, arranged for the
trophies, did the announcing, prepared the slide presentation, and to everyone
that attended"
The 2008 Awards Banquet date has been set for
Saturday, October 25. Mark this day off on your calendar today. A Saskatoon woman faces justice after
another non-profit organization is the victim of fraud. Candace Bradley has
pleaded guilty to charges of fraud over $5 thousand and theft. This, after close
to $15 thousand disappeared from the Saskatoon Stock Car Racing Association,
operators of Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. Bradley was the treasurer of the
Association in 2005, the year the money disappeared. The SSCRA's past President
Shawn Hill says he and ALL members of the Association feel violated. Hill says
even though Bradley had passed a criminal check when she was elected as
Treasurer, the association has taken further steps to ensure this doesn't happen
again. Bradley will be sentenced January 24th. The prosecution says it will
demand retribution. Hill says if that fails, the Stock Car Association may
use other legal means to get the money back.

Four
members of the Eby family have been confirmed for inclusion on the SSCRA History
Wall. Two of the plaques have been purchased in memory of others - one in memory
of Vern "Sharpie" Eby and the other in memory of Alma O'Brien (Eby). Whilst
Sharpie was the mechanic that kept everything together, Alma or "Mom" was the
Eby's #1 fan and supporter. The other Eby's confirmed for placement on the wall
are Darwin Eby and Gerald "Eb" Eby. Darwin drove mostly claimers back in the
70's and Eb was a valued pit crew member. The four Eby plaques bring the total
confirmed spots on the History Wall to 17 with still about another dozen or so
still being processed.

completing the triangle between Abu Dhabi an Dubai will host the 8th grand

This level of racing is intense. There will be 90 contenders in Scott's class,
34 of which will make it to the Final race for all the glory. Western Elite

Super Late Model Champion
Trent Seidel, Street Stock driver
Trudy Sawatzky and pit crew member
Glenn Sawatzky have all laid claim to a
spot on the SSCRA History Wall. Seidel
has staked his claim on spot #70 - the
same number that he sports on his
Propane Plus Automotive Monte Carlo.
Sawatzky's name will appear on spot #11,
which coincidently is the same number
that she sported on her Tiger Automotive
Camaro in the Street Stock Division.
Confirmed spots on the History Wall now
sit at 13 with about another dozen or so
still being processed.

Scott Campbell from Saskatoon, Canada is
making not his second, nor his third,
but rather his fourth trip to the Grand
Finals, making him one of the most
experienced drivers in ROTAX MAX Grand
Finals history. “My results keep getting
better and better every year. Who knows,
if a little luck goes my way this could
be the year I get up on the podium.”
Scott’s assessment is spot on. There’s
no doubt by anyone that’s watched him
run over the past few years that he has
the talent to run up front. But, he’s
also had some very disappointing luck
that’s held him back,.
Scott describes his mental attitude
right now as very relaxed. “I’m quite
comfortable right now. I know what to
expect and I’m ready for the racing to
begin,” said the likeable Canadian.
Scott has raced karts for 17 years
alongside his father who owns a kart
shop back in Canada.

Len
Carriere, Lloyd Cooper, and Doug Cooper
are the latest names to be added to the
SSCRA History Wall. Len Carriere drove
Super Late Model in the 80's, 90's, and
early 2000's. Carriere drove the #6 car
and was one of the fan favourites. Lloyd
Cooper was also a driver. Lloyd drove
the #70 car way back in the 8th Street
Motordrome days. Doug Cooper is a life
time member who has been involved in the
administration of the club for several
years. With these three names, the total
spots sold now sits at ten.

Its outstanding!! Something I will wear with pride for many years. We look forward to the upcoming season. Many thanks. Barry Bischoff & team #69. The 2007/08 Executive held its first monthly meeting of the year last night at the John Remai Centre. The meeting was primarily on opportunity for each of the seven directors to describe some of their objectives for the upcoming year. Over the course of the next two months many of the plans for the 2008 race season will be formulated. Should you as a member, fan, or driver have ideas for improving upon the product that is put on the track each week, please contact anyone on the Executive Committee or please feel free to attend an upcoming Executive Committee meeting.

two
trophies

went
to
the
same

The

Busch

to
#48
Chris

of
the
season,
a
couple
in
particular
seemed
to
stand
out
above
the
rest
as
the
season
wore
on;
#4
Todd
Jalbert
from
Waldheim
and
#82
Jonathan
Neufeld.
At
the
end
of
the
day
when
all
the
tallying
was
done
both
came
away
winners
as
top
rookie
honors
went
to
Jalbert
and
Neufeld
laid
claim
on
the
Most
Improved
Driver
award.
Rounding
out
the
Sport
Compact
Mini
Stock
Division
trophy
winners
on
Saturday
was
another
rookie,
#1
Scott
Barrand,
who
took
home
the
dubious
Phoenix
Award
for
persevering
through
the
year
in
spite
of
some
tough
luck
along
the
way.

The
2006
Co-Champion
of
the
Sport
Compact
Mini
Stock
Division,
Vangool
jumped
into
the
Lucas
Oil
Super
Later
Model
Division
this
year
with
all
cylinders
running
full
bore.
Backed
by a
great
team,
headed
up
by
crew
chief
Tom
Vangool,
on
most
nights
Vangool
looked
like
he
had
been
racing
SLM's
for
years.
Vangool's
first
taste
of
Super
Later
Model
action
was
in
the
NEWALTA
Late
Model
Challenge
Series
opener
on
May
26th,
where
he
finished
sixth
in
his
heat
and
a
respectable
11th
out
of
34
drivers
in
the
feature
race.
Vangool
followed
up
his
NEWALTA
Late
Model
Challenge
Series
experience
by
winning
his
first
ever
Super
Late
Model
Division
race,
the
opening
heat
race
of
the
night
a
couple
of
weeks
later.
Vangool
stayed
on
the
podium
all
night
that
night,
claiming
second
spot
in
the
qualifier
and
third
in
the
feature.
And
Vangool
only
got
better
as
the
season
progressed
and
he
gained
more
seat
time.
By
the
time
of
the
NEWALTA
Late
Model
Challenge
Series
Season
Finale
on
September
22nd,
many
a
fan
felt
Vangool
had
a
legitimate
chance
of
winning
the
feature.
Vangool
came
close,
finishing
2nd
in
his
heat
and
4th
out
of
35
cars
in
the
big
race.
Although
he
didn't
win
the
big
one
that
day
Vangool
turned
some
heads
in
time
trials,
posting
a
14.368
second
lap,
knocking
almost
4/10
of a
second
off
the
existing
track
record
established
by
#14
Glen
Hertzke
back
in
May.
Vangool
challenged
for
the
Lucas
Oil
Super
Late
Model
Division
points
lead
for
most
of
the
summer,
with
only
a
couple
of
minor
set
backs
preventing
him
from
doing
better
than
3rd
place
by
year's
end,.
He
finished
only
11
points
out
of
the
lead
and
5
points
out
of
second
place.
In
addition
to
taking
home
the
3rd
place
trophy,
Vangool
took
home
the
Most
Feature
Wins,
Rookie-of-the-Year,
and
Most
Improved
Driver
trophies.
Not
a
bad
night
for
a
converted
Mini
Stock
driver.
In
addition
to
the
Points
Championship,
the
only
other
SLM
trophies
to
escape
Vangool's
grasp
were
the
Best
Looking
Car
and
Crew
and
Most
Gentlemanly
Driver
Trophies
which
#14
Glen
Hertzke
captured
and
the
Phoenix
Award
for
perseverance
that
#09
Doug
Bienia
claimed
for
the
second
straight
year.
Last
year's
Super
Late
Model
Champion
#70
Trent
Seidel
who
settled
for
the
2nd
Place
Trophy,
took
little
comfort
in
the
fact
that
his
2006
race
suit
would
remain
within
eye
sight
of
the
Championship
Trophy.
Due
to
an
off
season
weight
loss
program,
Seidel
sold
his
2006
race
suit
to
Glen
Hertzke,
this
year's
Champion,
who
chided
that
"the
suit
is
now
up
for
bids
from
anyone
that
wants
to
win
next
year".

According
to
Hordal,
"we're
in
for
a
very
busy
few
days,
I've
spoken
to
the
Mayor
of
Martinsville
this
morning
and
they've
built
us a
pretty
extensive
agenda
of
events/tours,
including
morning
tours
in
the

I
can't
wait
to

there."
By
the
sounds
of
it,
Hordal
and
his

are
in
for
one
of
those
experiences
of a
lifetime.

Next
up,
#69
Kondra
eclipsed
#1
Mike
Dionne's
existing
Pro

record
of
17.282
with
a
first
lap
time
of
17.073

Kondra's
second

was
slightly
slower
at
17.109

The
difference
between
Division
and
Invitational
records
and
the
reason
they
are
tracked
separately
is
that
records
set
by
cars
during
invitational
events
do
not
necessarily
meet
the
technical
specifications
set
out
in
the
rules
of
the
Saskatoon
Stock
Car
Racing
Association.
For
example,
the
current
Street
Stock
and
Thunder
Stock
invitational
records
were
set
by
cars
legal
under
the
Regina
Auto
Racing
Club
rules,
allowing
the
use
of
Hoosier
racing
tires.
Saskatoon
Stock
Car
Racing
Association
,
versus
Saskatoon's
mandatory
treaded
street
tires.

Twenty
four
year
stock

veteran
Barry
Stefaniuk
was
proclaimed
the
Fans
Favourite
driver
during
last
Saturday's
Points
Championship.
Stefaniuk,
a
mechanic
by
trade
is
certainly
no
stranger
to
racing;
his
parents
have
been
going
to
the
races
ever
since
stock
car
racing
took
place
on
8th
Street
East.
