Other track records established or broken over the past couple of months include the establishment of the Sport Compact Mini Stock record of 17.977 seconds by #24 Mark West on August 11, the lowering of the Legends record to 16.307 seconds by #38 Ira Laughy on August 11th, the lowering of the Street Stock Invitational record by #1 Mike Dionne to 17.021 seconds on August 18th, the lowering of the Super Truck Racing Series track record to 15.288 by #74 Darrin Guillet on September 1st, the lowering of the Pro Truck Division record to 17.282 seconds by #1 Mike Dionne on September 1st and the lowering of both the Western Elite Division and Western Elite StockCar Tour records to 14.984 by #46 Dan Shirley. Jim Gaunt did just enough on Saturday in Nick Allen's #21 car to maintain Allen's third place position in the points standings. The big gainer on the night was #3 Nathan Weenk who moved tp from 7th place to 4th place in the points championship by virtue of his third place showing in the Mid West Combustion 125.

Three
very experienced drivers have been added to the mix of the Siemens
Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour Points Final that goes
tonight at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. First off Jim Gaunt, who is
more familiar in the #55 Super Late Model car will be making his
second appearance in the #21 Western Elite car normally piloted by
Nick Allen. Allen will be racing in a very important drag bike race
this weekend.
Kevin Dowler, a multi-champion in the former CASCAR Western Series was in town on Friday for a customer appreciation at one of his major sponsors, Emco, and will be taking to the track this evening in the #35 car. Dowler dueled it out with #6 Todd Nichol in the opening WEST race here in Saskatoon on June 2nd and expects to be at or near the front for most of this evening.
Another familiar name to stock car fans, Trent Seidel has been called to duty as an emergency replacement to drive the #49 car of Ben Busch's. Busch was unable to get his doctor's okay to race after suffering whiplash the last time out in "the worst crash of his racing career." Seidel who is currently tied for second place in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Points Championship with Gaunt, five points behind #14 Glen Hertzke. is a cagey veteran and will undoubtedly be a serious challenger in tonight's race.
Couple this trio (Gaunt, Dowler, Seidel) with current points leader #46 Dan Shirley and second place man #6 Todd Nichol and tonight's race is sure to be a barn burner. If a few cars come through with their early intentions the car count for tonight's race may even break the 20 mark. Green flag drops at 6:00 pm.
Things
were going down smoothly for Ben Busch,
then Murphy and his pesky law showed up.Busch's No. 49 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was cruising in fifth place in the Western Elite Stock Car Tour feature race on Sept. 1 at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway before Scott Dennis's No. 24 car spun loose, turned sideways and collided with No. 45 Trent Guest. Busch, with no time to react, slammed into the back of Guest's car. Race over.
The crash, "the biggest wreck in my 16 years of racing," left the Prince Albert native with a case of whiplash and a car in a severe state of disrepair. [For full article click here]
A very strong field is expected, with as many as 8 cars coming up from Kings Park Speedway in Regina and several local (Enduro) cars coming out of the woodwork to join in the fun. Fans shouldn't be surprised to see in excess of 20 cars taking the green flag.

Osborne who lives in White City and races regularly at Regina's Kings Park Speedway has been no stranger to the podium at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway this season, winning both the Living Sky Magazine Martensville and Tiger Automotive Street Stock Invitationals this year. Both Utigard and Osborne were reportedly running with the Hosier racing tire, which many say provides a distinct advantage. Finishing third were #98 Bryan Johnson, #36 Darryl Potts, and #99 Cory Kallis in the heat, qualifier, and feature races respectively. For full results click here.
Seidel gained a precious 6 points on Hertzke with second place finishes in the heat and feature races and a win in the Full Throttle Qualifier. They travelled to Saskatoon to participate in the International Motor Contest Association's modified races at Auto Clearing Speedway on July 14 -- a weekend that proved to be both "very entertaining and challenging" for the IMCA No. 73 team.
"The speedway was an awesome experience. The track was unbelievable and the racing was both competitive and exhilarating," they wrote, noting racing promoters and volunteers went all out to ensure the race teams felt welcome.
However, Hicks, the driver of the team, suffered a heart attack after finishing the main event Saturday night.
"Special thanks to Herman Hordal, Vern Gwin and Alex for helping to get Dusty's truck, trailer and race car safely parked for the week and for their many phone calls offering support and services," MacDougall wrote.
"Also a special thanks to the cardiologists and staff at the Royal University Hospital for taking such great care of Dusty during his stay with you.
"Thanks seems like such a small word when used to express our most sincere appreciation. We found Saskatoon to be a most remarkable and inviting city with great people. And an added bonus -- an outstanding speedway to enjoy. I am sure we'll be back again to race in your fair city -- a city you can all be proud of."
#46
Dan Shirley increased his points lead in the Siemens Transportation
Western Elite StockCar Tour Points Standings on the weekend by
virtue of his win in Saturday's Redline Harley Davidson 125. Shirley
increased his lead over #6 Todd Nichol by 15 points, and now sits
with a 37 point lead going into the final race of the season, the
Mid West Combustion 125 on Saturday September 15. Third place in the
points standings belongs to #21 Nick Allen with 563 points which is
110 back of Shirley.
Four cars, #49 Ben Busch, #24 Scott Dennis, #48 Chris Dennis and #3 Nathan Weenk sit in 4th through 7th position respectively and are only separated by 24 points, making for an interesting situation in the last race. For the complete points standings please click here.
The second record set Saturday was by in the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour's race the Redline Harley Davidson 125 by #46 Dan Shirley. Shirley posted a time of 14.984 besting #95 Paul Savoie's mark of 15.259 set on June 29th.
With Shirley's time of 14.984 only 0.233 seconds off of Glen Hertzke's record setting time of 14.751 in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division, watch for some fast times when the NEWALTA Super Late Model Challenge Series returns to Saskatoon on Saturday September 22nd.
In the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division, #1 Mike Dionne continued his dominance, winning all three races.
The procedure is simple, once you have signed in at the competitor's gate and pay a $25 registration fee, you get in line and one-by-one vehicles are given the opportunity for two timed laps around the track. Lap times are recorded and you will get a certificate with your best lap time as a momento of your experience. When you complete your two laps you can go to the back of the line and take another turn as many times as you wish.
Voting will take place on the following nights - September 7th (Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division, Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division, Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division) and September 15th (Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite Division, NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division, Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stock Division).
Nick
Allen, owner of Redline Harley Davidson
in Saskatoon is looking for 105 Harley
Davidson bikes to join him for a lap or
two at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on
Saturday September 1st. Redline Harley
Davidson are sponsoring this weekend's
Siemens Transportation Group Western
Elite StockCar Tour race, the Redline
Harley Davidson 125.
To make this a special day, Allen has arranged to have 105 Harley Davidson bikes on hand for the opening ceremonies and a couple of ceremonial laps to start the night off. Of course they will also participate in the call to "Start Your Engines". If you own a Harley Davidson and would like to be a part of this special motorbike/racing moment, please contact Redline Harley Davidson to see if they still have room for you.
Once the ceremonies are out of the way Allen will be jumping off his bike and into his #21 Western Elite car to take the green flag for the fourth of five Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar Tour races. At last survey over 20 Western Elite (formerly CASCAR) cars have expressed their intention to be here on Saturday.
Mark
Ringrose from Ardrossan, Alberta has
secured the services of a ringer for
Saturday's Super Truck Racing Series at
Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. 2006 Super
Late Model Champion Trent Seidel will be
behind the wheel of Ringrose's #24 2004
Toyota Super Truck on Saturday to take
care of some unfinished business from
last year.
"I drove one of Mark's trucks last year and had a pretty good run going moving into podium position when the engine gave out on me" Siedel said Tuesday morning, "The super trucks have a little less power than I'm used to and are a little heavier, but I'll tell you one thing, you can bet your bottom dollar l'm going out their to win" continued Seidel.
With their last race rained out all the Super Truck Racers are itching to get back on the track and so there should be a full contingent of trucks out on Saturday. Also racing Saturday are the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Trucks and the Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar Tour. Race time is 6:00 pm with front gates opening at 4:30 pm.
The unavailability of Bill Royce, the regular driver of the #99 car, necessitated the call to Saunders. Saunders joins R&D Racing's #24 Antrim Construction Monte Carlo and #48 Fluid Life Grand Prix, driven by Scott and Chris Dennis respectively. "Danny brings a wealth of experience to our team", notes team owner Paul Dennis. R&D Racing thank all of its sponsors, including Antrim Construction, Fluid Life Corporation, Pitlane Racing Depot, Greg Jablonski Racing, Oxy-Pro, Dupont, Alberta Engine Rebuilders and Edmonton Rent-All for their continued support.

WEST officials were disappointed this past weekend when they had to call off the running of the Antrim 125 feature race that was scheduled to be run at Race City in Calgary on Saturday night. After running two heat races and just prior to the feature race track officials noticed some pavement breaks in the track surface. Upon further review and discussion it was determined that the existing track conditions were such that the probability driver safety would be compromised had the race proceeded was too high and thus the race was called off. All drivers lined up for the feature race have been awarded 65 points. The next WEST race is Saturday September 1st at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.
The second driver to register is Trudy Sawatzky who will be driving the #11 Tiger Automotive street Stock on behalf of the Goodwench Racin Team. Sawatzky currently sits 5th in the points standings and is looking to improve on her 12th place results from the Living Sky Magazine Martensville Street Stock Invitational that was held in June.
The other two drivers to register thus far are #27 Scott Lucas from Prince Albert and #18 Bill Zubrecki from Sasaktoon. Lucas is currently the top rookie in the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division and finished a respectable 9th in June. Zubrecki, also a street stock rookie is aiming for better results than he had in his first street stock invitational when he finished well back in the pack.
Drivers wishing to pre-register can do so by downloading and filling out the registration form. The form can be faxed to the business office (306.956.0607).
#77 Greg Vangool had, by far, his best best race date of the season in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division, capturing the both the heat and feature races and gaining second place in the Full Throttle Qualifier. Vangools's performance Sunday is bound to make the points race in this division even closer than it was going into the race. Current points leader, #14 Glen Hertzke garnered two seconds (heat and feature) and a fourth on the afternoon. Last year's points championship #70 Trent Seidel won the Full Throttle Qualifier, came third in the feature and was back in the back in the heat race. #55 Jim Gaunt was third in the heat race. The next opportunity for Vangool to make an impression is on August 24th.
#19 Rylan Utigard also had his best race day of his rookie season, duplicating Vangool's feat of two wins (heat and feature) and a second place result in the Full Throttle Qualifier. #49 Mickey Pogoda also had her best race day of the season with a win in the Full Throttle Qualifier, second place in the feature and fourth in the heat race. Rookie Mike Rea in the #18 car was second in the heat race and #23 Kevin Nixey was the bridesmaid with third place results in all three races.
Top qualifier on the night with a time of 16.602, #3 Brent Hackl was unable to maintain his qualifying time throughout the race and finished second. Hackl did an outstanding job fending off #14 Curtis Blanchette who finished third. Fourth place went to Darrell Buckingham in the H20 car. Two lucky fans, Shayne Zdunich and Cliff Warlow, both of Saskatoon, each won a motor bike, just for being in attendance. The bikes were donated by Mac's Convenience Stores and the Legends Cars of Alberta. In addition to the bikes, fans were treated to thousands of dollars of giveaways from Mac's. Thank You!.
Tomorrow's Froster 50 race program will continue as scheduled with a 6:00 pm start time.
The #25 car joins the #24 Antrim Construction Chevrolet Monte Carlo and #48 Fluid Life Corporation Pontiac Grand Prix in the R&D Racing racing garage. Although the primary sponsor for the #25 is yet to be determined, Antrim Construction, Fluid Life and Pitlane Racing Depot in Edmonton are on board as contingency sponsors. R&D Racing thanks all of its sponsors, including; DuPont, Image Auto Detailing (St Albert), Edmonton Rent-All, Alberta Engine Rebuilders, OXY-PRO Welding Supplies, Amalgamated Mining Inc, all from Edmonton and Greg Jablonski Racing, chassis and set-up specialist in Surrey, BC. for their support this race season. This support has allowed them to race regularly at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon.

Others to reach the podium on Friday night were #49 Ben Busch 9second in the heat race), #24 Scott Dennis, second in the feature, and #95 Paul Savoie third in the heat and qualifier. Shannon Harding, wife of local Western Elite Division racer #29 Les Harding, in just her second year of racing took 2nd in the heat race Saturday, qualifying for the rophy dash for the first time in her short racing career. She placed fourth in the trophy dash. Shannon was the Rookie-of-the-Year last season and is currently 11th in the Mini Sprint Points Race. .
Saturday's
race was only son Joey Harding's third
race experience of his life. He averaged
84 miles per hour on Estevan Motor
Speedway's 3/8 mile dirt track; the
equivalent of lap times in the low 15
second range. Had a rad hose not broke
on Joey's car near the end of his heat
race he would have also qualified for
the trophy dash and been able to race
against his mother.
In the Mini Sprint feature race, both Hardings were running very well, before a caution on an extremely hot night triggered some over heating issues and they were forced to pull out of the race.
The Hardings will be testing their cars tonight in anticipation of bringing 5 or 6 more cars from Estevan for a demonstration during one of the regular August race nights at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. If you want to see them tonight, they should be at the track sometime after 5:00 pm.
In the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division, drivers were more prone to share the podium, with eight different drivers reaching it on the night. #98 Bryan Johnson was the only driver to reach it twice, with wins in the heat and feature races. Greg Vangoll (77) passes Dan Foraie in the qualifying round at the Mac's/FedEx Kinko's Border Challenge 150 at Race City Saturday. Lorraine Hjalte, Calgary HeraldCraig Ball concluded his Saturday night hanging upside down.
Appropriate enough, since his Newalta Late Model Challenge Series also managed to turn Western Canadian stock car history on its ear.
Ball smacked the backstretch wall at Race City Speedway, his No. 54 Mac's Convenience Stores Pontiac Grand Prix coming to rest on its roof on lap No. 108 of the the Mac's/FedEx Kinko's Border Challenge 150.
Although the current points leaders in the Mini Stock Division, the #19 duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss, weren't as dominate on Saturday, they did win the Full Throttle Qualifier. In the feature race, #88 Allison Nagorski was headed for her best race of the year with about a 20 car length lead, when a caution came out and brought her back to the field allowing Barnsley to overtake her. Nagorski finished seventh.
Devon Kopeck, top right, was taken to hospital after his car hit the wall, then Marshall Mormyluk's car. Picture taken by Lorraine Hialte, Calgary HeraldSaskatoon driver loses 73 pounds, feels great in car.
Not only has the

"Adrenaline can carry you a long way and

In
the feature race, current Hertz
Equipment Rentals Thunder Stock points
leader #2 Sheldon Bradlow was the first
to take the checkered flag. Bradlow,
pictured here making adjustments between
the qualifier and feature races, must
have made the right ones as he had
little trouble winning the feature. The
heat race winner #19 Rylan Utigard was
second in the feature and #81 Barry
Stefaniuk was third.
New Thunder drivers #42 Greg Hesterman, #59 Johnny Matsalla, and Kevin Nixey Crew driving the #15 car all seem to be having fun while improving every time out. The next action for the Hertz Equipment Thunder Stocks is Friday July 20th.
McConnell grabbed third place in the qualifier to go along with his second place finishes in the heat and feature races. #17 Stew Pearce took third in the heat race and #67 Ken Ross finished third in the feature race, skipping the qualifier to work on some mechanical problems he experienced in the heat race. The much anticipated debut's for Wade Wohlford and Alex Leschenko will have to wait for another day. Wohlford took a few hot laps, and then loaded up his truck, unable to race due to engine problems. Next action for the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Trucks is Friday July 20th.
