Jockeying for Position Tomorrow (September 28, 2007)
Although the current points leaders in the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock (#19 Aaron Anderson/Kelly Voss), Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stock (#2 Sheldon Bradlow), and NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck (#1 Mike Dionne) divisions all appear to have a lock on the Championship Title in each of their respective divisions, there will still be plenty of jockeying for position in tomorrows Points Championship. Most of the attention tomorrow will be focused on the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division where, even though there is a small field of seven cars, four of the seven still have a legitimate shot  at the title. #14 Glen Hertzke currently leads the division, a mere four points ahead of #70 Trent Seidel, the reining champion. Also in the hunt are #77 Greg Vangool, and 13th time champion #55 Jim Gaunt. Race time tomorrow is 6:00 pm, but you may want to get there a bit earlier to witness a couple of Mini Stock drivers take a crack at breaking the current Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock track record.

21 Thunders Salute Rick Fredrickson (September 21, 2007)
A total of 21 thunder/bomber cars took to the track last Saturday in the Rick Fredrickson Thunder Stock Memorial. Many of the drivers had raced with/against Rick over the past few years, so the the race was a special race for them. Judging by their reaction, Saturday's race had a special meaning for many of the fans in attendance as well. The familiar #22 car was on display on the concourse for most of the evening and participated in a ceremonial lap or two prior to the start of the race.

Once the feature race got underway, the on-track bumping and grinding was just as Rick would have liked it. At the end of the night #4 Richard Bute took the checkered flag. Bute was followed by #23 Kevin Nixey in second and 'Sharky', or Jim Braden in third.   Bute also won the heat race. The Full Throttle Qualifier was won by #19 Ryan Utigard. Instead, Shirley was anxious and bewildered. [For the full article click here]. To reread all articles that have appeared in the Star Phoenix this year please click here.

Shirley Wins Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour (September 15, 2007)
#46 Dan Shirley  hung on to win the inaugural Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour points championship on Saturday night with a fourth place finish in the Mid West Combustion 125 feature race. Shirley's fourth place finish coupled with his win in his heat race earned him 165 points on the night and 838 for the season. #6 Todd Nichol did all he could to surpass Shirley by gaining 198 out of a possible 200 points on the night to bring his points total for the season to 834 which is 4 points short of the championship.

Jim Gaunt did just enough on Saturday in Nick Allen's #21 car to maintain Allen's third place position in the points standings. The big gainer on the night was #3 Nathan Weenk who moved tp from 7th place to 4th place in the points championship by virtue of his third place showing in the Mid West Combustion 125.

A total of 25 cars took part in the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour this season. Of this total, 9 cars participated in all five races.  An Awards Brunch is being held at the Willows Sunday morning to formally close out the season.  Tickets can be obtained at the door if you want to come support your favourite driver. Nichol Closes with a Win (September 15, 2007)
#6 Todd Nichol opened the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour season with a win and Saturday night closed the season with a win as well. Nichol took over the lead from #95 Paul Savoie on the 7th lap and was never really challenged the rest of the way. Shortly after losing the lead, Savoie drifted back to fifth position, a position he maintained for the majority of the race, until attrition started to take place. First #35 Kevin Dowler bowed out of the race near the mid way mark with engine trouble and then when #49 Trent Seidel had to do the same with just under 25 laps to go Savoie found himslef in third position, with only #46 Dan Shirley between him and Nichol.

Savoie gained another position with only a couple of laps to go when Shirley had a bit of an altercation with the #89 car driven by Nathaniel Wagner, and went for a bit of a spin. Another benefactor of this mishap was the #3 car driven by Nathan Weenk who moved up to to a third place podium finish. Shirley managed to hang on for fourth spot.

A total of 20 cars registered for the season ending WEST race. [For full results please click here]

Gaunt, Dowler, Seidel added to Mix (September 15, 2007)
Three very experienced drivers have been added to the mix of the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour Points Final that goes tonight at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. First off Jim Gaunt, who is more familiar in the #55 Super Late Model car will be making his second appearance in the #21 Western Elite car normally piloted by Nick Allen. Allen will be racing in a very important drag bike race this weekend.

Kevin Dowler, a multi-champion in the former CASCAR Western Series was in town on Friday for a customer appreciation at one of his major sponsors, Emco, and will be taking to the track this evening in the #35 car. Dowler dueled it out with #6 Todd Nichol in the opening WEST race here in Saskatoon on June 2nd and expects to be at or near the front for most of this evening.

Another familiar name to stock car fans, Trent Seidel has been called to duty as an emergency replacement to drive the #49 car of Ben Busch's. Busch was unable to get his doctor's okay to race after suffering whiplash the last time out in "the worst crash of his racing career." Seidel who is currently tied for second place in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Points Championship with Gaunt, five points behind #14 Glen Hertzke. is a cagey veteran and will undoubtedly be a serious challenger in tonight's race.

Couple this trio (Gaunt, Dowler, Seidel) with current points leader #46 Dan Shirley and second place man #6 Todd Nichol and tonight's race is sure to be a barn burner. If a few cars come through with their early intentions the car count for tonight's race may even break the 20 mark. Green flag drops at 6:00 pm.

Busch & Co. Work Hard to Recover from Crash by Clint Walper of the Star Phoenix  (September 14, 2007)
Things were going down smoothly for Ben Busch, then Murphy and his pesky law showed up.

Busch's No. 49 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was cruising in fifth place in the Western Elite Stock Car Tour feature race on Sept. 1 at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway before Scott Dennis's No. 24 car spun loose, turned sideways and collided with No. 45 Trent Guest. Busch, with no time to react, slammed into the back of Guest's car. Race over.

The crash, "the biggest wreck in my 16 years of racing," left the Prince Albert native with a case of whiplash and a car in a severe state of disrepair.  [For full article click here]

Kudos to Safety Crew (September 10, 2007)
Watching the cup race on Sunday night (September 2nd), during Michael Waltrip's firey crash, Beth noted that the safety workers at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway seemed to get to incidents quicker, and seemed more efficient, than the crew working the cup race on that night. I agreed, we kept every official at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway  on their toes Saturday night (September 1), and they came through for us! I bet most of these officials, I should say volunteer officials, havent even stopped to think about the challenge we gave them, and the incredible job they did dealing with it. Well think about it! Good job to everyone! the technical staff, race director's, staging personal, and especially the track truck crew, track cleanup crew, tow truck crew, and ambulance. and even the people who served up the refreshments till long into the cool night!  - Thanks Devon Brown #51 WEST

Local Pro Truck Drivers a Hit at Kings Park Speedway  (September 09, 2007) by Richad Woodvine
Seven race teams from the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck division at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway made the trek down highway 11 on Saturday, September 8, to the delight of what was probably the largest crowd of the season at Kings Park Speedway in Regina.  Three different drivers shared the top podium spot in the three races.

Things got off to a rough start for #69 PJ Kondra as his transmission bit the dust in his very first lap of practice.  Thanks to Rescue Towing/Sharky's Auto Wrecking, PJ was able to make the opening green flag two hours later with a replacement transmission.

The opening 20 lap heat race was one of the tightest races ever seen in the Pro Truck division, as the drivers got a feel for the narrow track and tight corners.  Alex Leschenko took advantage of his experience on the Kings Park track with the former WRL and worked the #0 truck up from the middle of the pack to take his first win ever in the Pro Truck division.  #69 PJ Kondra took second, and #18 Ray Utigard placed third.

Drivers relaxed a little in the 20 lap qualifier, showing Regina fans what the trucks are capable of.  Running near the front of the pack around lap 15, Ray Utigard spun out in corner two with the #18 truck and sent it sliding sideways halfway across the infield, narrowly missing one of the light poles.  The #18 had to leave the race a couple of laps later when Ray found he had broken the brake line to his right front wheel.

#1 Mike Dionne found himself back in familiar territory as he won the qualifier race, followed closely by the #48 of Roger McConnell and the #0 of Alex Leschenko.

#69 PJ Kondra got off to a great start in the 50 lap feature, leading the pack for the first 25 laps before the #0 truck of Alex Leschenko got past him to take the lead.  That lead held for the next 10 laps until the #18 of Ray Utigard worked his way past Alex.  #1 Mike Dionne had ground his way up to third spot when at lap 40 his right rear wheel and the rest of the  truck departed ways.

Mike had to retire from the race on the back of a hook, as his crew went looking for the missing wheel out in the wheat crop.  While the trucks were waiting for Mike's gear oil to be cleaned up from the track surface, Alex's #0 truck suffered a loss of engine oil pressure and also had to leave the race.

That left #48 Roger McConnell knocking on every door of the #18 truck for the next ten laps, but just couldn't get by him.  The #18 Stan Caron Motor Sports truck driven by Ray Utigard took the checkered flag, giving him a beautiful trophy for his mantel.  Off the Wall Racing #48 driven by Roger McConnell took second, followed by Pure Vision Racing #69 driven by PJ Kondra.

Rounding out the finish was Darkside Racing #8 of Andrew Clewes and Rumblebee Racing #64, Stan Reddekopp. For full results click here.

Same Old, Same Old in Mini Stocks (September 08, 2007)
Friday night's results in the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division were pretty familiar results, with the #19 duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss once again winning all three races on the night. It just doesn't seem to matter where they start in the field Anderson/Voss always seem to get the job done. Another driver that is getting the job done lately is #41 Jim Barnsley. Barnsley finished second in all three of Friday night's races.  The only position that was up really for grabs on Friday night was third place which went to #43 Todd Ferguson in the heat, #07 Darnell Schick in the Full Throttle Qualifier, and #4 Todd Jalbert in the feature. Guests Clean up at Wes Skakun Street Stock Memorial Race (September 08, 2007)
Local Auto Clearing Motor Speedway Tiger Automotive Street Stock races proved to be very gracious hosts on Friday night as two guests, #19 Ray Utigard and #34 Wayne Osborne hogged the top two podium positions all night. Utigard, who does race locally in the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division brought his dirt track street car to the track on Friday night and won the heat race and finished second behind Osborne in the Full Throttle Qualifier and feature races.

Osborne who lives in White City and races regularly at Regina's Kings Park Speedway has been no stranger to the podium at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway this season, winning both the Living Sky Magazine Martensville and Tiger Automotive Street Stock Invitationals this year. Both Utigard and Osborne were reportedly running with the Hosier racing tire, which many say provides a distinct advantage. Finishing third were #98 Bryan Johnson, #36 Darryl Potts, and #99 Cory Kallis in the heat, qualifier, and feature races respectively.  For full results click here.

Hertzke Maintains Slim Points Lead (September 08, 2007)
While #70 Trent Seidel and #77 Greg Vangool gained some ground on #14 Glen Hertzke, the points leader in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division going into Friday night's race, #55 Jim Gaunt ensured that he didn't lose any ground. Vangool won the heat and feature races to get within 11 points of Hertzke, but still in fourth position, 6 behind Seidel and Gaunt who are tied with 293 points just 5 points off of the lead.

Seidel gained a precious 6 points on Hertzke with second place finishes in the heat and feature races and a win in the Full Throttle Qualifier. Gaunt had third place finishes in the Full Throttle Qualifier and feature races and Hertzke was third in the heat and second in the qualifier.  For full results click here.

Friday Night Winners (September 07, 2007)
Some familiar faces showed up in Friday night's winners circle at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. No strangers to the podium this year, the #19 duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss won all three of the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division races. Rookie Greg Vangool won twice in the Lucas Super Late Model Division, with #70 Trent Seidel winning the Full Throttle Qualifier. In the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division, #19 Ray Utigard took the heat race and #34 Wayne Osborne from White city won the Full Throttle Qualifier as well as the feature race, the Wes Skakun Memorial. More information to follow.

Comments from Bonita MacDougall and Dusty Hicks as appeared in Sarah Peiris's column in the Star Phoenix  (September 05, 2007)
Along with some regular material that appears here, it's time for a sampling of both positive and critical letters from visitors. The letter from Calgarians Bonita MacDougall and Dusty Hicks is a great kickoff to this week's column.

They travelled to Saskatoon to participate in the International Motor Contest Association's modified races at Auto Clearing Speedway on July 14 -- a weekend that proved to be both "very entertaining and challenging" for the IMCA No. 73 team.

"The speedway was an awesome experience. The track was unbelievable and the racing was both competitive and exhilarating," they wrote, noting racing promoters and volunteers went all out to ensure the race teams felt welcome.

However, Hicks, the driver of the team, suffered a heart attack after finishing the main event Saturday night.

"Special thanks to Herman Hordal, Vern Gwin and Alex for helping to get Dusty's truck, trailer and race car safely parked for the week and for their many phone calls offering support and services," MacDougall wrote.

"Also a special thanks to the cardiologists and staff at the Royal University Hospital for taking such great care of Dusty during his stay with you.

"Thanks seems like such a small word when used to express our most sincere appreciation. We found Saskatoon to be a most remarkable and inviting city with great people. And an added bonus -- an outstanding speedway to enjoy. I am sure we'll be back again to race in your fair city -- a city you can all be proud of."

Shirley Increases WEST Points Lead (September 05, 2007)
#46 Dan Shirley increased his points lead in the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour Points Standings on the weekend by virtue of his win in Saturday's Redline Harley Davidson 125. Third place in the points standings belongs to #21 Nick Allen with 563 points which is 110 back of Shirley.

Four cars, #49 Ben Busch, #24 Scott Dennis, #48 Chris Dennis and #3 Nathan Weenk sit in 4th through 7th position respectively and are only separated by 24 points, making for an interesting situation in the last race. For the complete points standings please click here.

Track Records Continue to Fall (September 03, 2007)
Two track records bit the dust on Saturday night at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. #1 Mike Dionne was successful in his bid to break the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck record by posting a time of 17.282, shattering the previous mark of 18.095 seconds set by #17 Stew Pearce on May 13th.

The second record set Saturday was by in the Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour's race the Redline Harley Davidson 125 by #46 Dan Shirley.  Shirley posted a time of 14.984 besting #95 Paul Savoie's mark of 15.259 set on June 29th.

With Shirley's time of 14.984 only 0.233 seconds off of Glen Hertzke's record setting time of 14.751 in the Lucas Oil Super Late Model Division, watch for some fast times when the NEWALTA Super Late Model Challenge Series returns to Saskatoon on Saturday September 22nd.

Shirley Runs Virtually Wire to Wire (September 03, 2007)
#46 Dan Shirley virtually ran wire to wire on Saturday night to win the Redline Harley Davidson 125, the fourth Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar race of the season. Shirley led for 123 of the 125 laps with #6 Todd Nichol the only other driver to take a turn out front. Nichol finished second. Both Shirley and Nichol won their respective heat races. Third place was captured by #21 Nick Allen. A total of 18 cars took to the track on Saturday.

In the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division, #1 Mike Dionne continued his dominance, winning all three races.

For a complete list of the current points standings please click here.  Please note that points in some of the divisions have changed slightly due primarily to the late registration of drivers, or reviews of the order of finish in some races.

Note of Appreciation from IMCA President (August 01, 2007)
The following note was recently received from Bruce Hampton, the President of I.M.C.A. Canada Inc."I just wanted to reiterate once again how much I.M.C.A. Canada Inc. and its Modified race teams enjoyed our event at your facility. It is a premier race track in Western Canada. But as with any venture it is only as good as the people who manage and work there. We are still hearing reports of the excellent relationship all of our teams enjoyed with you and your staff and volunteers. Your people are most assuredly the most valuable asset at the Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. They were the most hospitable and helpful staff we have ever worked with. Please pass along our thanks to all of them for all that they do to enable us to enjoy our sport of choice.

Thank you for all your assistance in setting up the event and over the weekend as well. Your sponsors have done an outstanding job, as well, of supporting this great community asset.

Dusty Hicks is back at home as you know and is feeling quite well as he tells us. Thanks to everyone for their assistance and concern for a fellow racer.

Wishing you and your organization a most successful remainder of the 2007 season. We look forward to working with you in the future."

Friday Night Racing (July 28, 2007)
There was some terrific racing Friday night at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. In the Saskatoon Sports Compact Mini Stock Division, #41 Jim Barnsley showed signs that he has regained the early season form he had last year when he was a regular visitor to the podium. Barnsley was third in the heat race and won both the Full Throttle Qualifier and the feature, holding off the #19 car in both races. The Aaron Anderson/Kelly Voss team in the #19 car won the heat race to go along with their second place results in the qualifier and feature races. Ken Ross, driving the #77 car again on Friday night was third in the Full Throttle Qualifier and the feature race. #78 Matt Bartsch was second in the heat race.

In the Siemens Transportation Western Elite Division, #46 Dan Shirley turned the triple, winning all three races on the night. Another Shirley, Chris Shirley had a good night finishing second in the Full Throttle Qualifier and feature, after a fourth place showing in the heat race in the #21 car owner by Nick Allen. Allen could not drive as he was preparing for a bike race on Saturday. Others to reach the podium on Friday night were #49 Ben Busch 9second in the heat race), #24 Scott Dennis, second in the feature, and #95 Paul Savoie third in the heat and qualifier. Savoie, experienced mechanical problems mid way through the feature race, resulting in a couple of altercations with the back wall.

In the Lucas OIl Super Late Model Division, #70 Trent Seidel sandwiched a third place result in the Full Throttle Qualifier between wins in both the heat and feature races.  #55 Jim Gaunt won the qualifier and was second in the feature. Glen Hertzke (#14) and Greg Vangool (#77) both had a second and a third on the night. Full full results please click here.

Harding's Mini Sprints at Practice Tonight (July 24, 2007)
Fresh off a very successful night of racing at Estevan Motor Speedway this past Saturday, Shannon and Joey Harding will be testing their Mini Sprint cars at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway during tonight's practice session. Both Hardings ran extremely well in Estevan, against competition from Montana, North Dakota, Manitoba and Alberta.

Shannon Harding, wife of local Western Elite Division racer #29 Les Harding, in just her second year of racing took 2nd in the heat race Saturday, qualifying for the rophy dash for the first time in her short racing career. She placed fourth in the trophy dash. Shannon was the Rookie-of-the-Year last season and is currently 11th in the Mini Sprint Points Race. .

Saturday's race was only son Joey Harding's third race experience of his life. He averaged 84 miles per hour on Estevan Motor Speedway's 3/8 mile dirt track; the equivalent of lap times in the low 15 second range. Had a rad hose not broke on Joey's car near the end of his heat race he would have also qualified for the trophy dash and been able to race against his mother.

In the Mini Sprint feature race, both Hardings were running very well, before a caution on an extremely hot night triggered some over heating issues and they were forced to pull out of the race.

The Hardings will be testing their cars tonight in anticipation of bringing 5 or 6 more cars from Estevan for a demonstration during one of the regular August race nights at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. If you want to see them tonight, they should be at the track sometime after 5:00 pm.

Pro Truck Challenge Good for Competition (July 23, 2007)
Ever since the first NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck race of the season, rumors have persistently been floating around about the legality of the #1 SKL Trailers Pro Truck. Going into last Friday night's race program the #1 truck, driven by Mike Dionne, had won 4 of 5 feature races, 3 of 5 Full Throttle Qualifier races and 3 of 5 heat races to lead the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division by 40 points. What is the real reason behind this success? A formal protest to have the engine checked out was lodged by Stan Caron Motorsports on Friday and on Sunday morning, [click here for more]

"The #1 Pro Truck's engine was found to be legal after a teardown procedure was completed, following the filing of an engine protest by the #18 Pro Truck." This statement was issued this morning by the Competition Committee.

Stefaniuk, Utigard, Bradlow Hog the Podium (July 22, 2007)
Three Hertz Equipment Rentals Thunder Stock drivers, #81 Barry Stefaniuk, #19 Ryan Utigard, and #2 Sheldon Bradlow were the only ones to reach the podium Friday night, with each driver winning a race, and coming in either second or third in the other two races. Stefaniuk won the heat race, Utigard the Full Throttle Qualifier and Bradlow the feature.

In the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division, drivers were more prone to share the podium, with eight different drivers reaching it on the night. #98 Bryan Johnson was the only driver to reach it twice, with wins in the heat and feature races. Others with podium results included; #9 Darren Diehl (winner of the Full Throttle Qualifier), #69 Robin Drysdale (2nd in the heat), #28 Cale Siemens (2nd in the Full Throttle Qualifier), #15 Todd Pluhator (2nd in the feature), #31 Mike Ebby (third in the heat), #11 Trudy Sawatzky (third in the Full Throttle Qualifier, and #99 Cory Kallis (third in the feature).

Dionne won the feature and placed second in the Full Throttle Qualifier. McConnell won the Full Throttle Qualifier and placed third in the feature. Thank You From IMCA Driver (July 17, 2007)
I would like to say a great big thank you to all of the staff (volunteers) etc at Saskatoon track. You helped and did a very professional job of running the races on Saturday. Also put together one of the best pay schedules we have seen in the past few years (WPR the exception). It was an awesome evening for #23 and #14. We would come back any time. The track is awesome and challenging to drive. The dirt guy's made you earn every spot and there were some very tough pavement car's there as well, which meant we really had to work for the 40 points. Great Job Everyone. .... Barry McTavish

Bonneyville Keeps on Trucking by Clint Walper of the Star Phoenix (July 16, 2007)
Just making it to the Speedway was an adventure for Calgary driver and crew. Mechanical problems are usually a racer's biggest concern. Roger Bonneyville's crew from Calgary barely even made it to the race."We've got an older Mac diesel that we usually pull our trailer with," said Bonneyville. "It broke down, but we got a motor and put it in and just got it running last night. We made it about 80 miles from home, then the motor was toast. . [For full story click here].

Western Canadian oval-track race records obliterated

Craig Ball concluded his Saturday night hanging upside down.

Appropriate enough, since his Newalta Late Model Challenge Series also managed to turn Western Canadian stock car history on its ear.

Ball smacked the backstretch wall at Race City Speedway, his No. 54 Mac's Convenience Stores Pontiac Grand Prix coming to rest on its roof on lap No. 108 of the the Mac's/FedEx Kinko's Border Challenge 150.

Rookies Making a Street Stock Impression (July 15, 2007)
Jordan Hill and Scott Lucas, both driving Camaro's made a bit of an impression on Saturday night in the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division. While Hill driving the #3 Camaro finished second to #98 Bryan Johnson in the heat race, Lucas in the #27 Camaro, was third in both the heat race and the feature race. Had it not been for a caution in the feature race pulling the #27 car back to the field Lucas might even had done better. Once the field was brought back together because of the caution #98 Bryan Johnson and #99 Cory Kallis overtook Lucas to finish 1-2. The best race of the night was the Full Throttle Qualifier in which #11 Trudy Sawatzky, hung on to win by a bumper over a hard charging Kallis. Kallis came from back of the field and made repeated attempts to pass Sawatzky in the last five laps of the race, with Sawatzky up to the challenge each time. #9 Darren Diehl placed third in the qualifier.

Best Wishes to IMCA #73 Dusty Hicks (July 15, 2007)

More information will be supplied as it comes available.

Shirley and Savoie Continue to Battle it Out (July 15, 2007)
The top two points leaders in the Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite Division continued to battle it out on Saturday night with #95 Paul Savoie winning the heat race, coming in second to Shirley in the Full Throttle Qualifier and then third in the feature. Shirley was left off the podium in the heat, mbut won both the Full Throttle Qualifier and feature races. #21 Nick Allen had a reasonably good night Saturday, with second place finishes in the both the heat and feature races. #48 Chris Dennis and #3 Nathan Weenk took home third position in the heat and qualifier races respectively.

Bartsch and Barnsley Rounding into Form (July 15, 2007)
Matt Bartsch driving the #78 Civic and Jim Barnsley in his #41 Neon, appear to be rounding into form at the mid point in the Saskatoon Sport Compact Mini Stock season. Both put in strong performances on Saturday night, after struggling a bit earlier in the season. Bartsch won the heat race and followed Barnsley across the finish line to take second place in the feature. Barnsley captured third place in the Heat race and won the feature comfortably. #44 Jesse Krahn and #77 Ken Ross both had double podium nights. Krahn was second in the heat race and third in the Full Throttle Qualifier. Ross drove the #77 car as if he owned it, finishing second in the Full Throttle Qualifier and third in the feature. Ross was a replacement driver for the #77 car - regular driver Frank Vangool is recuperating from knee surgery and Greg Vangool was in Calgary for a NEWLALTA Late Model Challenge race.

Although the current points leaders in the Mini Stock Division, the #19 duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss, weren't as dominate on Saturday, they did win the Full Throttle Qualifier. In the feature race, #88 Allison Nagorski was headed for her best race of the year with about a 20 car length lead, when a caution came out and brought her back to the field allowing Barnsley to overtake her. Nagorski finished seventh.

Saskatoon driver loses 73 pounds, feels great in car.

The Newalta Late Model Challenge Series hasn't seen much of Trent Seidel these days.

Not only has the Saskatoon native skipped a few stops on the nine-part stock car tour to stay in town and race locally, Seidel has lost a whopping 73 pounds.

"Adrenaline can carry you a long way and it always did for me because I was always a little heavy," the 42 year old, who dropped the weight thanks to L.A. Weight Loss, said Saturday at Race City Speedway's Mac's/FedEx Kinko's Border Challenge 150. [For full story click here].

One of the 17 year old rookies, #19 Rylan Utigard won the opening heat race in the Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stocks on Friday night. The win was Utigard's second win of the season. "The car was sticking real good", Utigard offered after the raec, "I'm having fun". #22 Rick Fredrickson finished second in the heat race and #2 Sheldon Bradlow third.

In the Full Throttle Qualifier, veteran Thunder driver, #81 Barry Stefaniuk showed the rookies a thing or two and was the clear winner. Bradlow captured second and #18 Bill/Mike Rea team was third.

In the feature race, current Hertz Equipment Rentals Thunder Stock points leader #2 Sheldon Bradlow was the first to take the checkered flag. Bradlow, pictured here making adjustments between the qualifier and feature races, must have made the right ones as he had little trouble winning the feature. The heat race winner #19 Rylan Utigard was second in the feature and #81 Barry Stefaniuk was third.

New Thunder drivers #42 Greg Hesterman, #59 Johnny Matsalla, and Kevin Nixey Crew driving the #15 car all seem to be having fun while improving every time out. The next action for the Hertz Equipment Thunder Stocks is Friday July 20th.

Dionne Keeps Rolling Along (July 07, 2007)
The #1 SKL Trailers Pro Truck driven by Mike Dionne kept rolling along Saturday night, winning all three races on the night - the heat race, the Full Throttle Qualifier, and the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck feature race. Dionne had to work for his three wins - charging hard the last 2 laps in the heat race to overtake #48 Roger McConnell right at the finish line. In the feature race, Dionne held off McConnell from reversing the tables and overtaking him for the win and in the qualifier Dionne kept #8 Andrew Clewes at bay.

McConnell grabbed third place in the qualifier to go along with his second place finishes in the heat and feature races. #17 Stew Pearce took third in the heat race and #67 Ken Ross finished third in the feature race, skipping the qualifier to work on some mechanical problems he experienced in the heat race. The much anticipated debut's for Wade Wohlford and  Alex Leschenko will have to wait for another day. Wohlford took a few hot laps, and then loaded up his truck, unable to race due to engine problems. Next action for the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Trucks is Friday July 20th.

The following note was received from Paul Dennis, owner of the #24 and #48 Western Elite Division cars: "With respect to the last race, the #24 car was busted up pretty bad, worse than what the summary states on the website. Please convey our thanks to the crews of the #94 and #6 cars for their efforts, especially on welding up the torn differential.  Unequivocally, without the help of these two crews we would not have been able to get into the feature, they deserve credit for out first ever podium finish in the Western Elite's.   Thx   Paul".
