Shirley Goes Wire to Wire (June 29 2007)
#46 Dan Shirley, starting in the #2 position in the front row, took over the lead in the 2nd lap and never looked back to capture the second Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar Tour race, the CTV 125, on Friday night. Shirley withstood advances by first WEST race winner Todd Nichol from Edmonton a number of times in a race that saw a number of cautions. "That was the longest 125 lap race I've ever been in" offered Shirley after the race. "I'd like to thank all my fellow competitors for racing clean" he continued.

#3 Nathan Weenk and #24 Scott Dennis the recipients of #49 Ben Busch's misfortune finished second and third respectively. Busch was solidly in second position when, just as the white flag dropped for the final lap, when he lost his front right tire, allowing Weenk and Dennis to each move up one position by the time the checkered flag dropped. Busch finished the final lap on three wheels to claim fourth. Dennis almost never made the start of the race, having suffered major damage in his heat race after hitting the back wall. "I busted a tie-rod end and lost almost all of my fiberglass body, but my crew did a great job getting the car back in running condition" Dennis remarked after the race. The Next Siemens Transportation Western elite StockCar Tour race is scheduled to be held at Race City in Calgary on August 18th.

Nichol Sets Elite Race Standard by Kenyon Wallace of The StarPhoenix (June 04, 2007)
Edmonton driver wins inaugural race in the Western Elite Stock Car Tour

The Auto Clearing Motor Speedway might smell like oil and gasoline, but Todd Nichol smells championship. The Edmonton-based driver took first place Saturday night at the inaugural Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite Stock Car Tour (WEST) race, the Affinity Credit Union 125.

"I was a little concerned because the battery died on the car about halfway through the race," said Nichol after receiving his first-place trophy. "But I just kept driving hard and the car came through. We smell championship now."

Nichol, in the No. 6 Monte Carlo, spent most of the race battling for first place with four-time CASCAR Western Series champion, Kevin Dowler, No. 35.

Nichol started the race in the pole position, but relinquished his lead to Dowler soon off the jump. It wasn't until lap 89 when Nichol was able to overtake Dowler's blue Ford Fusion and keep the lead for the rest of the race.    [for complete article please click here]

Siemens, Potts go Door-to-Door (June 03, 2007)
Whilst #99 Cory Kallis picked up a couple of wins Saturday night in the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division and #98 Bryan Johnson was held to only one podium finish for the first time in a long time, the most excitement on the night was created by the door to door racing of #28 Cale Siemens and #36 Darryl Potts. Siemens and Potts raced side by side in all three races, with the qualifier race the most exciting of the three,. Siemens and Potts rounded turn 4 side by side and both going full out for the finish line. Siemens was the winner by an extremely close margin. Siemens also out-dueled Potts in the feature race finishing second, just ahead of Potts, in some more door-to-door action.

"Great door-to-door racing", an excited Siemens offered after Saturday's race program. "It was the same thing as last weekend, I'm pretty new at this so to me its just an honor to be racing against someone who has raced for as many years as Darryl [Potts] has. He's such a nice guy, when you race that close to him you know its going to be a clean race, I love it". For Siemens his win in the qualifier was his first win of the season. Other drivers to reach the podium Saturday were #69 Robin Drysdale with a 2nd place finish in the heat race, and #6 Joe Larochelle with a 3rd place finish in the qualifier race.

4 More Thunder Cars Make Their Debut Saturday (June 03, 2007)
The excitement is beginning to mount in the Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stocks, with 4 new cars showing up for Saturday's race program. Making its first appearance on Saturday was the #42 car driven by Greg Hesterman. Warren Brakefield will share driving duties in the #42 car.  Aaron MacDonald from Prince Albert brought out the #83 car, Lorraine Caron drove the #59 car and the Kevin Nixey crew made their first appearance in the #15 car. The additional cars contributed to some great Thunder Stock racing.

#2 Sheldon Bradlow was the vest driver on the night, winning the feature and qualifier race and coming in 2nd in the heat race. Barry Stefaniuk driving his familiar #81 car seems to be close to regaining his touch as he finished 2nd in the feature after experiencing a bit of mechanical trouble in both the heat and qualifier. #23 Kevin Nixey was 3rd in the feature and won the heat race. While #22 Rick Fredrickson managed a 2nd place showing in the qualifier, #3 Adam Yelland had his best race of the young season with a 3rd place finish in the qualifier. #49 Mickey Pogoda rounded out the podium results on Saturday with a 3rd place finish in the heat race.

Anderson/Voss Continue Early Dominance (June 03, 2007)
The #19 car driven by Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss continued their early dominance in the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division on Saturday night, winning all three races. The Anderson/Voss duo seemed to increase their winning margin as the night worn on, and came close to lapping the second place car in the feature race. Coming in second was the #77 car of Frank Vangool, which is now being driven by Greg Vangool, while regular driver Frank Vangool recovers from knee surgery. Vangool took home third in the heat and qualifier.

Jesse Krahn in the #44 car secured the other podium position on Saturday, coming in second in the heat and qualifier and 3rd in the feature. #7 Darnell Schick ran a very strong feature race, taking home 4th place, ahead of #78 Matt Bartsch, and #41 Jim Barnsley.

Saturday Results (June 03, 2007)
The results from Saturday's race are available by clicking here. Stories and more information will follow this evening.

Nichol Inaugural Winner (June 02, 2007)
Edmonton driver, #6 Todd Nichol, opened the inaugural Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar Tour race, the Affinity Credit Union 125, and closed it in the lead. Nichol was one of only two drivers that saw the lead in Saturday evening's race. The other was #35 Kevin Dowler, also from Edmonton. Nichol started in the pole position, relinquished the lead to Dowler after only a few laps, and then regained the lead on lap 89, after repeated attempts to overtake him earlier in the race. Dowler was set to regain the lead himself a few laps later, but was foiled when a caution flag came out just as he was about to pass Nichol.

Nichol kept Dowler behind him the rest of the night. Finishing 3rd on the night was #46 Dan Shirley who over took #21 Nick Allen with only a few laps to go. Allen who ran 3rd for almost the entire race finished 4th. #95 Paul Savoie was 5th and Prince Albert's Ben Busch 6th on what turned out to be a perfect night of racing.

Perfect night that is, except for #29 Les Harding. Harding experienced some trouble in hot laps, losing his fiber glass hood, fenders, and nose cone when hit by #46 Dan Shirley. Shirley suffered the same fate.  Both drivers were able start the feature race after their crews sis a fantastic job fixing the damage. In the feature Harding happened to be in the wring place at the wrong time a couple of times, experiencing more damage to his front end, and finally had to park it with about 10 laps to go.

The next Siemens Transportation Group Western Elite StockCar Tour race at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway is on Friday June 29. For complete results of Saturday's race please click here.

New Stock Car Series Packs Hefty Horsepower by Doug McConachie, SP Sports Editor of The StarPhoenix (June 02, 2007)
Edmonton’s Paul Dennis can’t believe his good fortune.

He spent $50,000 last summer to keep his sons Chris and Scott racing stock cars, and he was looking forward to this season when CASCAR pulled the sparkplugs on its western Canadian series. Then things took a sudden turn. With Siemens Transportation Group signed on as a major sponsor, organizers in Saskatoon announced they were launching a five-race Western Elite division. Hertzke Shaves 0.161 seconds off Track Record (May 29, 2007)
Saskatoon's Glen Hertzke in the new look #14 SPI Security Ford Fusion paced the field with a sizzling 14.751 pole winning lap, just prior to the start of this past Saturday's NEWLALTA Late Model Challenge Series race. Hertzke was the 14th driver to qualify. Two other drivers broke the old track record of 14.912 seconds set by the #50 Sky Financial Chevrolet Monte Carlo driver Jim Gaunt at the season finale of the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series on October 1st, 2006.

"I'm very excited to have broken the record, particularly since Jim Gaunt held it all winter. Maybe it was the race suit I bought from Trent Seidel a few months back, but I was really able to pick the right groove on Saturday" noted Hertzke on his record setting achievement.  Hertzke is also the holder of the Super Late Model track record at the now defunct Bridge City Speedway.

Following Hertzke out on the track, Calgary driver Jarrod Johnston rocketed the #7 Alamo Industries Chevrolet Monte Carlo to two consecutive laps under 15 seconds, a 14.921 and a very quick 14.783 seconds. Johnston was the only driver to post two laps under 15 seconds.

Another Calgary driver Brian Levant in  the #49 Baja Bar and Grill Chevrolet Monte Carlo was the only other driver to break the previous track record by circling the fast Auto Clearing Motor Speedway at 14.850 seconds. Levant was the 22nd car in the qualifying order. Complete time trial and race results can be seen by clicking here.

What a Track! (May 29, 2007)
The following email was received yesterday from a fan who attended Saturday's race, "I attended the NEWALTA race Saturday night and was more than impressed with your facility. I attend races at Wetaskiwin, what a difference. It seems to me your cars are as fast or faster than the competitors in the NASCAR late model series. Here's hoping it is a real success and brings a new meaning to motor sports in Saskatchewan. Thank you for a great night of racing, I will be back."

New York Race Fans Impressed with Visit (May 28, 2007)
Roger and Gail Herb from Camden, New York were heading to Alaska last Friday when, at the border crossing, they heard about Saturday's NEWALTA  Late Model Challenge Series race at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway on the radio. "When we heard that,  we knew Saskatoon was where we were going to stay for a few days" Roger recounts. "We follow stock car racing in the US and didn't want to miss an opportunity to see a race up here."

Roger (pictured here on the right with Marketing and Business Development Manager Herm Hordal), and Gail dropped by the track Friday afternoon, found out about the practice, booked a campsite at Gordie Howe Campground, and then came back to watch Friday night's practice. Roger watched most of Saturday's practice times, headed by to the campsite to pick up Gail to watch the race program in their motor home in the RV parking area. Roger was even given an opportunity to ride in the pace car. "This is one heck of a track you got up here, and the hospitality has been great, if we'd been treated any better we'd have to move up here." Thanks for the visit Roger and Gail, and we hope to see you on your way back to New York.

Gaunt Crew do Bang-Up Job, Turn Smashed Car to Fast Car by Kenyon Wallace of The StarPhoenix (May 28, 2007)

Gaunt Gets It Done (May 26, 2007)
Veteran Super Late Model driver Jim Gaunt #15 Sky Financial Chevrolet Monte Carlo ended a winless drought and won the opening round of the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series and the first Border Challenge event of the year at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, SK.

The near capacity crowd saw local drivers claim all three spots on the podium as Dave Bone #38 Pontiac Grand Prix took the second spot with third place going to Glen Hertzke in his new look #14 SPI Security Ford Fusion.

The next four sports went to touring cars from the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series. Newcomer Rob Dowler in the #4 Fastray Pontiac Grand Prix paced the 27 out-of-town cars with a fine fourth place finish in his Series debut.

2006 CodeWest Rookie of the Year  Dean Craig, driver of the CCI Motorsports #67 WeatherShield Insulation System Chevrolet Monte Carlo was fifth.

Defending NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series champion and three time 2006 race winner Craig Ball  with the #54 Mac's Motorsports / Pepsi / Super8 Pontiac Grand Prix opened his title defense with a sixth place finish.

2006 series runner-up, Gary Lister #55 Big Daddy Bobcat Chevrolet Monte Carlo was seventh.

In all 35 Super Late Model cars were on track this weekend.

Johnson Maintains Perfect Record (May 26, 2007)
#99 Bryan Johnson maintained his mastery over the Tiger Automotive Street Stock field on Saturday night, winning all 3 races he raced in, bringing his early season record to 6 wins in 6 tries. Other winners Saturday were #69 Robin Drysdale in the first heat race and #99 Cory Kallis in the first qualifier race.

#36 Darryl Potts and #28 Cale Siemens also had good nights. Potts, who hails from Watrous, collected three 2nd place finishes and Siemens a couple of seconds and a third.

Gaunt Capture NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Season Opener (May 26, 2007)
Jim Gaunt, the 34th and last car to register for the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series Season Opener was the first car to take the checkered flag on Saturday night. Normally one to be on time, Gaunt needed every hour he could get on Saturday to finish repairing his car from the damage it suffered in a Thursday evening collision with the wall. The 20 or so hours that Gaunt spent repairing his car, between Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, turned out to be well worth it.

"The car was strong, and it stayed consistent, in fact it actually got better as the race ran on. I'm a big fan of long races", Gaunt offered after the race. Gaunt took over the lead at around the 80 lap mark and never relinquished it, staving off some late charges from local drivers #33 Dave Bone

With #14 Glen Hertzke completing a Saskatchewan sweep of the podium results, by finishing 3rd, it's fair to say that the Saskatchewan has maintained its grip on the Border Challenge Trophy. The 34 cars that raced Saturday was the highest Super Late Model car count in Saskatoon for several decades. The count would have even been one higher had #99 Bill Joyce not blown an engine in practice on Friday night.

The order of finish for Saturday's race was as follows: 15, 33, 14, 4, 67, 54, 55, 53, 70, 69, 77, 89, 07, 6, 36, 41, 82, 5, 12, 20, 97, 29, 49, 56, 88, 424, 7, 69.

Ready To Bring It (May 26, 2007)
Super Late Model debut for #60 Phil Habberjam
Saskatoon, SK - Auto Clearing Motor Speedway was open for practice Friday night and many of the teams of the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series that arrived early in Saskatchewan's largest city made their way to the track under clear and sunny skies.

CCI Motorsports driver Dean Craig in the #67 WeatherShield Insulation System Chevrolet Monte Carlo was quickest in the session with unofficial lap times under the track record of 14.912 held by local Super Late Model driver Jim Gaunt.

Cranbrook, BC driver Clint Harbart and the #09 Minute Muffler Ford Taurus has made his return to the track. Habart also made the trip to Saskatoon for the 2006 season finale.

Making his first appearance at the new and fast Auto Clearing Motor Speedway and his debut in a Super Late Model was Edmonton, AB driver Phil Habberjam and the #60 Habberjam Mechanical Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The session ended early for Edmonton, AB driver Bill Royce #99 Pitlane Racing Depot Pontiac Grand Prix when his motor expired coming out of turn 2.

Also on track was #41 SFE Global Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Devon, AB driver Kevin McMillan.  Along with Dean Craig and Bill Royce, McMillan finished in the top 10 in last year's season ending Border Challenge Race in Saskatoon.

Practice continues at 11am and 1.30pm on Saturday in preparation for the season opening Border Challenge 150 that goes at 6pm.

Tickets at all Macs Stores in Saskatoon.

Super Late Models Rolling into Saskatoon for NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series Opener (May 25, 2007)
A steady stream of haulers could be seen late Friday afternoon and early evening rolling down Saskatchewan highways to Saskatoon for the NEWALTA Late Model Challenge Series season opener. In excess of 30 cars, 25 or so from out of province, are expected to be on the front straight when introductions are made Saturday night. Saturday's race is also the first of four Border Challenge races, pitting Saskatchewan drivers against their counterparts from across the border. And the Albertans are determined to do better than they did in the last Border Challenge on October 1, 2006 at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway when only 1 Alberta driver was in the top 6 finishers. As determined as the Albertans are to achieve better results, Saskatchewan drivers are just as determined to maintain their dominance on 'their' track.

With a promising weather forecast, and a high car count, Saturday's race program is one that race fans will not want to miss. Front gates open at 4:30 pm, with the race program starting at 6:00pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any Mac's Convenience Store or can be purchased at the gate.

Life in The Fast Lane by Doug McConachie of The StarPhoenix (May 25, 2007)
Veterinarian finds his passion in a stock car. Doug Bienia's first race didn't go quite as anticipated. In fact it didn't go at all.

He got the racing itch in the mid-1980s when he and wife Marj sat in the stands, listening to the cars on the old Bridge City Speedway track. "It just sounded so exciting . . . I just wanted to try it," says Bienia, whose day job is as a veterinarian.

"It was a moment of weakness," says the 57-year-old from Hague. Two decades later, as he prepares for Saturday's 150- lap NEWALTA challenge for Super Late Models and as many as 25 challengers, it's still just as exciting.  ........ [click here for entire article]

Winning the Race of Life (May 24, 2007)
"The feeling of sitting in the staging lane and getting the adrenaline rush, just before a race when you start to shiver - I just love that feeling and I can't wait to get back out there."

Familiar Names amongst Early Points Leaders  (May 20, 2007)
Some very familiar names are atop the early points standings in each of the five Auto Clearing Motor Speedway Divisions that have seen action this year. #98 Bryan Johnson is the early points leader in the Tiger Automotive Street Stock Division. Rounding out the top 5 in the this Division are #69 Robin Drysdale, #88 Brad Wrennick, #11 Trudy Sawatzky, and #99 Cory Kallis.

In the Siemens Transportation Western Elite Division, #95 Paul Savoie has a very slim 1 point lead over #46 Dan Shirley. #56 Howard Crossman, #3 Nathan Weenk, and #21 Nick Allen round out the top in this division.

In the Hertz Equipment Rentals Thunder Stock Division, #2 Sheldon Bradlow has the early lead. Bradlow is followed by #81 Barry Stefaniuk, #23 Kevin Nixey, #19 Rylan Utigard, and #49 Mickey Pogoda.

In the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division, the #1 truck driven by Mike Dionne is the best of the bunch so far. Not far behind are #67 Ken Ross, #18 Ray Utigard, #8 Andrew Clewes and #48 Roger McConnell.

After two very strong performances, the Aaron Anderson/Kelly Voss team is leading the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division. Within striking distance of the #19 car are #44 Jesse Krahn, #77 Frank Vangool, #41 Jim Barnsley, and the #07 car driven by Darnell Schick.

The Luca Oil Super Late Model cars have yet to hit the track. For a full listing of the Points Standings after Friday night's races please click here.

Friday Night Results (May 20, 2007)
The results of Friday night's race program are available by clicking here or by clicking on Results on the Schedule (obtained by clicking on the Schedule menu button).

Shirley Establishes Western Elite Track Record (May 20, 2007)
#46 Dan Shirley established the Western Elite Division track record on Friday night with a recorded time of 15.062 seconds in the first of two time trial laps he was allowed. Interesting enough Shirley's speed of 145 kph on the front straight in his best lap was 2 kph lower than his speed on his second lap. Shirley's recorded time was lower than both his CASCAR Sportsman Division record time of 16.141 from last year as well as #35 Jim White's CASCAR Western Series best time of 15.181 seconds.

The Competition Committee ruled this week that only cars/trucks conforming to Division rules are eligible to maintain Division track records. As a result of this ruling the Street Stock Division track record time of 17.587 recorded by #1 Deb Newnham on May 13, 2007 is ineligible and #98 Bryan Johnson is the official track record holder in the Street Stock Division with a time of 17.714, recorded on May 13, 2007.

Anderson/Voss, Dionne, and Bradlow Dominate (May 19, 2007)
The Saskatoon Hyundai Sports Compact Mini Stock #19 duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss bettered last week's 2 win performance by capturing all 3 of their races Friday night. The #19 Anderson/Voss car was clearly the best on Friday, no matter who was driving it, winning by comfortable margins in all three races.

Friday night's cold track conditions were very much to #1 Mike Dionne's liking as he raced to first place finishes in all three of the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division. "The truck seems to be gripping pretty good tonight, even though it's cold" Dionne said after his qualifier win. Dionne who lives in Brock, SK drives the #1 Pro Truck for owner Scott Lewchuk and SKL Trailers of Dundurn, SK.

#2 Sheldon Bradlow came close to matching the performances of Anderson/Voss and Dionne, winning the qualifier and feature races in the Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stock Division. Bradlow's quest for a triple win night was thwarted by #23 Kevin Nixey  won won the heat race.

Whilst the Thunders, and Minis next action is in 2 weeks time, the Pro Truck's next race is not until June 9th.

Savoie Holds Off Shirley (May 19, 2007)
Paul Savoie in his #95 2006 Dodge Charger had just enough on a cold and windy Friday night to hold off #46 Dan Shirley in both the Qualifier and Feature Siemens Transportation Western Elite Division races. Savoie narrowly missed winning his heat race, losing to #21 'Nitro' Nick Allen by a fraction of a second. "I got a bit better restart than Dan did in the last caution, and was able to stay in front. Dan was certainly closing hard and fast": offered Savoie after the race. Shirley did win his heat race and #45 Trent Guest from medicine Hat won the 2nd qualifying race. #56 Howard Crossman followed Savoie and Shirley home in the feature race.

A total of 15 cars took to the track in the Siemens Transportation Western Elite Division Friday night, offering some relatively exciting racing. The 15 cars were divided in half for the heat and qualifier races which saw caution free driving for the most part. With all 15 cars on the track for the feature race the story was a little different, as a number of cautions were required, one for a multi-car pile up in corner #4. Next action for Western Elite drivers is Saturday June 2 when the first of 5 Siemens Transportation Western Elite StockCar Tour races will be held right here at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon.

Bryan Johnson Gets Blazing Start at Speedway - by Darren Zary of The StarPhoenix (May 14, 2007)
Rick Fredrickson (foreground) spins out, while Bill Rea (No. 18) and Barry Stefaniuk steer clear in a thunder stock race Sunday at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway

There it was, opening day at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway and the street stock feature race — with only a few laps to go — was dressed to the nines.

Car 98 Bryan Johnson had raced to the lead. No. 99 Cory Kallis was right behind, followed by No. 69 Robin Drysdale.

However, instead of giving Johnson, the seven-time defending street stock champion, a run for his motor Sunday afternoon, Kallis got knocked out of the race..... [Click here for the complete article]

3 of 4 Track Records Lowered on Sunday (May 13, 2007)
Track records in 3 of the 4 Divisions that ran on Sunday afternoon were lowered when it was all said and done. A total of 11 vehicles bettered the previous best times. Four NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck drivers lowered the bar, with #17 Stu Pearce the lowest at 18.095 seconds. Three Tiger Automotive Street Stock drivers lowered the Street Stock record with #1 Deb Newnham the fastest at 17.587 seconds. In the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stocks Division, four drivers enjoyed better times than the previous record, with #19 Aaron Anderson recording the fastest time of 18.197 seconds. The 18.825 second record Sheldon Bradlow holds in the Hertz Equipment Rentals Thunder Stock Division was unchallenged. For a complete list of time trials please click here.

McConnell Captures NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Feature Race (May 13, 2007)
Roger McConnell, from Gaslyn, SK enjoyed a pretty good Mother's Day afternoon at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway winning the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck heat and feature races. McConnell, driving the #48 Pro Truck, also finished 5th in the qualifier and 7th in time trials. After an opening 7th place finish in the heat race, #8 Andrew Clewes made some adjustments to his truck and won the qualifier and finished 2nd in the feature race.

#67 Ken Ross also had a good afternoon, with a 2nd place finish in the heat race, a 4th place finish in the qualifier and a 3rd place finish in the feature. Kel-Cor Racing Team Solves Suspension Problems (May 13, 2007)
If the results of today's Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock races are any indication, the Kel-Cor Racing team has definitely solved any suspension problems they may have had on the #19 car last year. The driving duo of Aaron Anderson and Kelly Voss started the day off with Anderson shaving more than a full second off the Sport Compact Mini Stock track record. Anderson was clocked at 110 kph on the front straight in his very impressive record setting lap of 18.197 seconds.

Anderson followed up his record setting time trial by winning the opening heat race. Kelly Voss then took over the #19 car for the qualifier race, finishing a strong third. Anderson capped the night off by winning the feature race to lay claim on the early lead in the points championship. "We weren't happy with the suspension last year, so the boys worked really hard on it in the winter, and their hard work seems to have made a really big difference" a happy Anderson said after the race.

A total of 15 cars took to the track in the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stock Division on Sunday afternoon, with 5 of those cars, bearing the yellow rookie stripe on their back bumper. #44 Jesse Krahn had a pretty good day, winning the qualifier and finishing 3rd in the heat and 2nd in the feature. #41 Jim Barnsley, who always seems to be near the front, finished 2nd in both the heat and qualifier, before slipping to 4th place in the feature. Last year's champion Frank Vangool, switched his car number from #59 to #77 and improved throughout the evening, starting with a 6th place showing in the heat race, moving up to 4th in the qualifier and 3rd in the feature. For the complete results of Sunday's races please click here. The next action for the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stocks is this Friday may 18th.

Opening Day Postponed to tomorrow,  Sunday May 13, 2007 (May 12, 2007)
Due to the hail and extremely heavy rain that came down on Auto Clearing Motor Speedway and surrounding areas between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm this afternoon, tonight's season opening race program has been postponed and rescheduled to tomorrow afternoon (pending the weather of course).

Even though, as of 4:30 pm this afternoon, the skies are bright and sunny, at 3:30 pm the area around Auto Clearing Motor Speedway looked like a winter wonderland, the result of a heavy hail storm.  The hail and accompanying rain was too much for the parking lot and infield pit area to handle in such a short time frame. As a result, even though the weather looks fine right now, the damage has already been done.

The race program tomorrow will remain the same as today, with the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stocks leading the way, followed by the Tiger Automotive Street Stocks and Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stocks. The feature Division tomorrow will be the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division. The tentative race program for tomorrow remains the same as it would have been today, except for the change in times.  Tomorrow's race program starts at 2:00 pm with the front gates opening at 12:30 pm.

Please check the web site tomorrow morning for a further update.

Opening Day Kick-off Downtown (May 12, 2007)
Auto Clearing Motor Speedway made a presence in downtown Saskatoon Saturday morning as last year's Division Champions and a handful of other vehicles were stationed in front of various 2nd Avenue businesses as a part of a promotion with The Partnership. Fans got an opportunity to talk to drivers and see a stock car up close.

At 11:30 am drivers "started their engines" and had a short parade down 2nd Avenue and back up 1st Avenue, with Saskatoon City Police leading the way. The morning promotion was designed to bring attention to tonight's Opening Day race program which kicks-off at 6:00 pm. Front gates open at 4:30pm. Four of the six local race Divisions will be racing tonight, with each holding time trials before the races start to determine starting order.

The evenings program will start with the Saskatoon Hyundai Sport Compact Mini Stocks, followed by the Tiger Automotive Street Stocks and Hertz Equipment Rental Thunder Stocks. The feature Division on opening night is the NAPA Auto Parts Pro Truck Division. Fans can expect to see increased car counts in all 4 of the Divisions racing tonight. For a look at tonight's tentative race program please click here.

The newly formed Western Elite StockCar Tour was officially unveiled at a Friday afternoon Media Conference at Prairieland Park. The WEST was organized over the course of the last three months, specifically for drivers of the former CASCAR Western Series and local CASCAR Sportsman drivers. The series is administered by Auto Clearing Motor Speedway and in its inaugural season will consist of 5 races, 4 at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon and the other one at Race City in Calgary, Alberta. It is expected that a minimum of 20 drivers will be on hand for the first WEST race in Saskatoon on June 2nd.
